unfinished business in the garden

Comments (25)Both rooms look great, love the doors and windows too! I find the cabinet rather domineering in terms of the door and dining table. Have you considered painting that wall in something like railings (last pic) so the cabinet fades into the background and anything else will stand out? I'd then add another abstract art display similar to what's over your sofa plus a tall palm as others have suggested where the bureau is (would look great in the hall if you have room). I'd pick up more of the mid century/abstract style you have for a rug, 3rd pic is from westelm. I don't think you need anything on the window wall personally, the windows and garden views are enough. I might centre the table under the light, add a sheepskin or a throw on one of the chairs kitchen side just to break up the wooden chairs and stools. Maybe move the hydrangea to the island and swap the vase for something in mustard and add some taller eucalyptus stems. For the table some textured bowls for fruit or veg would look good maybe with a decanter or 2...See MoreWhy does this corner look unfinished??
Comments (34)I think it looks amazing now you have moved the sofa. I agree with Jules, the footstool on the left is better as it breaks up the space between the kitchen and seating area. I would put a tall plant in though. This will help to lead the eye out into the garden which will make the space feel bigger. I would actually change the feature wall to a mirror as this will reflect in more light from outside and make the space feel bigger again. I think the world map wall decoration would lookabove the fire place, pictures and ribbon and all. I would also agree with the suggestion to change the curtain to something lighter. Note regarding the curtain rail this should either be just above the window line on just under the line of the ceiling. This helps the rail blend in with the existing lines instead of breaking up the space between the window and ceiling which makes the ceilings feel lower than they are. The kitchen and parkay flooring is to die for! Such an amazing space, I'm sure you're very proud!...See MoreMexicano Door Variations - any experience?
Comments (2)I don’t have those doors, but they are lovely and very popular. No idea they were called Mexican doors! Door quality does vary eg solid oak is much more expensive than, say, pine. I ordered an oak front door online (1930s style) which looked lovely, but when the carpenter went to cut out the letterbox etc, he found it was oak veneer, not solid oak, and the inside was pine! I did paint it though. No mention of this on the website. It was quite a bit cheaper so I would agree be wary of doors that are perhaps a little too cheap. My builder brother uses Howden doors and Jeld Wen Doors a lot for his customers....See MoreThe New & Reclaimed Flooring Company
