hmm how should i make a small house into a big open happpy house

i have one pic cause i just started but they want better quality dufrent floor and wall changes /colors also more dining sets and antiqes

Large gardens are all well and good if have the energy & ability and you can afford the time (or money) for maintenance, but it's not always ideal. The size of garden should be appropriate to the size of house and appropriate for the lifestyle of the owners.

Personally I think that the issue is that the pebbledashed section is too plain and this is exacerbated by the fact that the roof here is higher than the original plan. In my opinion the solution is to create some visual interest in this area. If both you and your neighbour is replacing the porch a taller version might help. Personally I think the pebbledash looks like a lower quality product than the rest of the house and painting it would help lift it (as long as the neighbour also want to do it as half done would look worse). Ideally I would put a tall thin sash style window in the pebbledashed section but I recognise this might be inconvenient inside the house- but it could be faked by adding a window surround to the outside to match the stone on the bay.

This is a super site with incredibly friendly and helpful contributors, I am sure you will get a lot out of it, I certainly have. :) As well as the advice from the great folks on here, there are 2 books that I have found immensely helpful. The first is the Haynes manual for Victorian and Edwardian houses and the second is Farrow and Ball: How to Decorate. The Haynes helped me think about the history of my house, what I could/should/will/won't find as we tackle each room. The F&B book helped me think about colour and how it is affected by the light coming into the room (or lack thereof). It also made me think about the flow of the house from room to room which is especially important in a smaller house I think as a cohesive flow will make the rooms (and the whole house) feel bigger. The best bit of advice I got was from my brother-in-law who said that we should live with the house for a good 6 months before making any large changes. There may be stuff that really needs doing though such as neutralising any particularly strong decor from the previous owners. (I removed all the odd strips of wallpaper stuck at random places in the hall!) Good luck with it and make sure you post to let us know how it is going. Oh and RB, surfing RightMove is a super idea. Quite a lot of the time it does show you stuff you then know you don't want!

This is a rough sketch about my idea. 2 Options Option 1: - remove the door in the living room and demolish the existing wall between kitchen and living; - new wall in line with garage with double sliding doors; - new open space in living room with a corridor into utility and toilet; - reduce garage and at rear create a toilet and utility room; - rear extension 4mt with flat roof and rooflight, to create kitchen/dining; - new windows at side in kitchen/dining; - bi-fold doors at rear; - first floor side extension above the garage; - bedroom 3 become ,1 part corridor (access to master bedroom) and 1 part en-suite (for master bedroom). - new master bedroom with dressing above garage. Option 2: - new porch at front; - remove the door in the living room and demolish the existing wall between kitchen and living; - new wall in line with garage with double sliding doors; - new open space in living room with a corridor into utility, toilet and guest room/play room; - garage conversion to realize, utility room, shower room and guest room/play room; - rear extension 4mt with vaulted ceiling, to create kitchen/dining; - new windows at side in kitchen/dining; - bi-fold doors at rear; - first floor side extension above the garage; - bedroom 3 become ,1 part corridor (access to master bedroom) and 1 part study; - new master bedroom with en-suite above garage.
