What would you most like to change about your kitchen?
Comments (25)The lack of bench space, and I'm not sure which category of the poll that fits into. Layout maybe, since we'll need to move things around to make it work. Our kitchen is enormous, but it's all storage - one whole wall is floor to ceiling pantry-style cabinets. On the other all the stovetop and the sink take up a full half of the bench top, so there is just enough room for one chopping board and bowl on what's left when you are cooking. The crazy thing is, it's not even a tiny galley kitchen, but the space in between the two walls is only just big enough to squeeze an island in, so we are trying to decide between being cramped, or knocking down walls and completely remodelling. Can't quite bring ourselves to pull the trigger on the latter, though, as all the cabinets and cupboard are in great shape....See MorePOLL: On a rainy day, I'm most likely to...
Comments (29)go shopping or do some cooking :) the log fire is pretty much essential, so is the cup of tea, and rain is actually quite good for making me work instead of just looking out the window doing nothing... or on Saturday I cleared out my wardrobe and guess what...I found loaaaads of clothes that are actually fine so just as good as going shopping!!!:D...See MoreWhich room in your home have you spent the most money on?
Comments (10)Totally agree, Christopher Brummit. I persuaded a friend that the place for her kitchen was not in the one room overlooking the garden - which is where it was when she bought the house - but in the middle with the dining room at the front (with a fireplace) and the sitting room at the back with a gorgeous view. I also think it's worth thinking about the dining room's location. In my 1927 house, it's meant to be at the back which means it overlooks the garden. Meanwhile, the sitting room overlooks the road. I swapped and couldn't be happier especially as the room at the back is much bigger. Shake it up is what I do!...See MoreDIY Vs Hire a Pro!
Comments (25)Danielle you have raised some familiar concerns regarding understanding the costs; we often suggest to our clients who don't have an interior designer that the benefits are measurable and worthy of the investment. We work closely with interior designers and understand their respective offerings - and associated costs, which means we can refer our customers to the right affordable company/individual. In most scenarios they do end up purchasing some level of service. This is ironic for us as some clients also believe that having any form of lifestyle technology is expensive; and it is their interior designer who then refers us to help explain how our services will benefit a given project. ...and yes, the majority go on to secure services from us. For us, and many interior designers, i think the best approach is to declare that the initial meeting is free and you stand to scope the customer's requirements, suggest options and align costs. It's chargeable time we have to invest and we can always chat on the phone prior to agreeing a meeting....See More- 8 years ago
