Really love the textural appearance of the granite what is it?

Love the layering of colours and textures and the interest the granite gives against the back ground flat colours of units etc.

I'm a huge fan of texture in a property. A small amount can really add a unique detail to a room especially a kitchen. There are so many interesting options available and it can really enhance the natural beauty of timber.

My initial reaction to the photos was that the kitchen units' colour somehow didn't quite 'gel' in the room and I was rather hoping colourhappy would come in and be able to cast her professional eye over it. I still really like the granite and I agree that at least changing the lower units will work. Perhaps the upper units need changing too? J Pleass, would you consider doing that?

Hi :-) I'm blushing, because of Karen from OnePlan's comment :-) But here goes: fairly simple and I'm guessing not too expensive would be changing the front door for a modern (oak) one, adding a modern awning above the front door, and painting the pebble dash a warm white, improving the path to the front door and painting the red brick retaining wall a dark grey (same as stairs) or white. I would also add planting. At some point in the future I'd change the trellis below the decking for a more modern version with vertical or horizontal slats and replace the railing with a glass version or a metal version (but I'm not sure if that is allowed by building regulations in the UK because of the horizontal steel wires).

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately we can't take the porch out as our adjoining neighbours porch is attached to ours, we also want to keep costs down if possible. Our initial thoughts are to maintain the existing framework but with one of the following: - replace all glass with clear glazing, replace front door with Hal's clear glazed door so the you can then see the original front of the house (we have the original solid oak door which is bare wood with textured glazing) - replace all glass with etched glass and Hampton part glazed or solid London wood door. - reverse etched number above the door Any thoughts would be great....Dilemma continues!
