Please I need your help! My front room looks dull, and the wall paper

Hi, please I need your advice/ ideas on how to make my living room feel cosy. I want to change the wall paper, maybe add a new rug and other decorating objects.
I have attached photos of reading area/living room space.

Hi there! I agree with changing the wallpaper as it dominates the room a bit at the moment. You could then paint the walls using some nice warm tones to link in with your existing furniture. Rugs are a great idea to add warmth, a cosy feel and in your case could help define your different areas. Take a look at your lighting choices too - remembering if it is 'task' ie: for reading or 'ambient' for an overall cosier feel. It's difficult to see, but you may get that cosier feel with a pendant lamp over the table and more lamps where light is needed. Have fun! Anne

I agree the wallpaper has to go, choose something less busy, plus light and airy. The table and chairs are clashing with the parquet, so either paint to match the fireplace or replace them. Maybe you could change the curtains, although I think they match well with the standard lamp. However, I think you have too many decades going on in there and you need to stick to one. The organ needs to come away from the window as it detracts from the T.V area and the big speakers by the T.V could maybe do with being hidden from view a little. Definitely needs a little feminising going on! Is that a shelf unit infront of a radiator? Can't quite see, you might be better off with two T.V / Display units in white / Ivory. One to hide the speakers in but with 'Jali' style panels to let the sound out, the other to hide the rad but create storage with the same type of panel.

Hi there, We think you have created a lovely lounge, and you should be very proud of what you have done so far as it has been put together very tastefully. The only thing we think you are missing to complete the look and add character are those all important Accessories! Often forgotten and always missed when they are. Looking at your Blue and Neutral colour scheme we would recommend introducing a contemporary cream rug by Eichholtz, select the dimension that will be big enough for the front feet of the sofa to ideally fit onto the rug! https://www.pavilionbroadway.co.uk/eichholtz-wilton-rug.html We would also recommend adding a touch of colour by painting your fireplace wall in Parma Grey by Farrow & Ball. It depends on whether you are north or south facing. North. I would suggest a quality taupe carpet as base. You can make ANY Colour decisions after that. If you overlook a garden look for beautiful modern greens - and purples as your first response suggest. You could have a feature wall in the purple - or a paper for added warmth and style. Lamps in patterned green - look at Pooky. Not cheap but lovely. Perhaps a rug with some green in it or with some stone plus purples? Curtains neutral but warm and padded. If south facing how about blue and white with cream carpet and large glass coffee table. Goes with every colour of flowers! Lovely with red for cushions in Winter. If you want a more masculine look, go for navy and white. Think Ralph Lauren. If south facing, what about shutters for the windows and no curtains.

I agree with Red80 re furniture layout. There are lots of good things in this room, I just personally find the cushions and blinds clash with the chandelier and wallpaper. I would swap the 2 geometric cushions for softer patterns in lighter grey/white/duck egg. I'd get something with different textures as the cushions fabrics look the same atm? Add accessories to your coffee table, maybe just a pile of books, a vase of flowers, and an "ornament" in wood/ceramic/pewter etc again for texture. When budget allows swap the blinds for Roman blinds. Try blinds 2 go or Tuiss which is their sister company if you're in the UK. I can't remember the exact price but I got pure silk Roman blinds for 2 really large windows for c£450 which sounds a bargain to me although not yet up:) I agree the mirror is a little high. If you can, without leaving a hole on show in the wallpaper, I'd lower it as long as it doesn't reflect the tv! I'm not sure the pics to the left of the window work as they're obscured by the curtains. Perhaps also a taller vase/pot in the blue for the tv cabinet to detract from the tv a little more? Alternatively you could change the wallpaper and the mirror to give the room a contemporary rather than classical feel

I think you could put the tv in the opposite corner on the other side of the window, then put the two chairs (if they'll fit) side by side on that wall (with the door) with the table in between. If these are a bit too snug, you could always angle them into the centre of the room. Then the sofa could go opposite the window at right angles to the door, but a little over towards the fireplace wall. This will give you clearly defined "square" sitting room area, which you can further delineate with a rug in your chosen accent colour and then add coordinating or matching cushions and throws. I would then move what I think is a glass cabinet (in the corner of the dining part of the room) to the left hand side of the radiator cabinet. I would then try to move the dining table more towards the kitchen and the now empty corner. For the dining table I would look at getting something like a table runner or a big bowl/vase/ornament with reflects your chosen accent colour which will visually join up the two areas. I would also be tempted to replace one of the pictures with a large mirror. And also perhaps think about getting different wall art.

Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light

I love the room - It looks like a really swinging party should start any minute. My opinion is that to make it less dull you need to invite 30 people round, make some pineapple and cheese on sticks, get a 60s to 70s playlist going and get the party started. By the way the least dull thing in the room is the wallpaper, so I would keep it and consider making the most of the retro furniture with some funky art and lighting.
