Measurements please.

We are about to replace our kitchen and extend but can't quite decide if we have enough width to accommodate an island, most advice taken off plans has been No. This Island seems quite long and slender. do you have the measurements of the island, the width of the kitchen and of the space each side of the Island please, Many thanks

Hi I am so sorry for not replying to your enquiry, for some reason it did not appear in my in box. I assume its a little late now but just in case not the kitchen was 3.2 meters wide and the island unit was 600mm wide. Annie

Like the second one of Jonathan's with the side access. If you could squeeze in a pocket door across the lobby to front bedroom and bathroom, it could become a proper en suite for guests.

Thanks all, see attached plan with measurements. The back sitting room is dark so I thought this could be a snug/tv room, dining table in new extension. I think because we already have the kitchen and downstairs toilet in the galley area( which is being extended outwards by 1 mtr or so) I have left it there. The rear sitting room has a lovely high ceiling and ceiling rose, I can't imagine losing half of it to a utility, although Jonathan maybe it's an idea to move the kitchen. The house isn't huge so it would be same distance to family bathroom at top of stairs to the downstairs toilet. I did think of putting it next to the understairs but husband doesn't like the idea of toilet in the middle of the house and said drainage could be an issue. Debating whether to put an island in?

Hi Rose, Yes if you were able to remove your old kitchen, to re instate it in your new one it could work - but obviously it means the old house won’t have a kitchen any longer. What is due to happen to this home? Is it to be sold or knocked down ? If you are selling the other house then, most people would need a kitchen? If you are in a country where it’s common to sell a home without one, that is quite different to if you are somewhere where banks require a working kitchen in the property before they will loan money on it (so people can buy the house ). Which country are these properties in ?

Personally I don’t think the space is big enough. Is this going to be used everyday? If so I think having to shimmy through the door will make it feel badly thought out, the tiny basin will be annoying and the space for the loo feel claustrophobic. So if it’s a well used Ensuite then consider if it can be made bigger. If it can’t then get rid of the shower and just have a wc, a basin and decent vanity and accept showering elsewhere. If it’s going to get used for an occasional guest then I would make the compromise on the shower tray size and have one that is 1400x700 and thereby create more shoulder room for the WC
