Living Room furniture/colour help
Could do with some help with rearranging the furniture in our living room & ideas for adding extra storage for kids toys/lego etc. In an ideal world I would move the shelves/tv etc but at present they have to stay.
The grey armchair & sofas are the hardest things to arrange as they are all so bulky, cant get rid of them at present either.
The wall behjnd the tv is a partition wall we put up to create an office/which is now the dining room. Again in an ideal world I would take the wall down and have a it all open plan again.
The room is 5M across the window wall. It is all the odd angles/wall shapes that make it difficult to arrange.
Id also be interested on opinions on the room colour. I love the bright pink so am planning on keeping it but need to update the lilac colour.

Comments (8)2 other options. Have 3 x 2 seater sofas. 2 matching ones opposite each other and a contrasting one opposite the fireplace. A slim console table with lamps, objets etc may look nice behind the sofa so you don't have a view of a back of a sofa from the dining room. Comments (8)So... here goes: I've used the dimensions of the Ikea Klippan sofa, so something around that size should be okay. Also put in an Ikea armchair, and I'm thinking that you could incorporate the TV into the bookcases. Perhaps you could create a bench in the niche where the patio doors are, with a small dining table and a chair. I've seen people using Ikea (I'm not working for them, I promise) Kallax shelving units to create dining benches. If it's really 1.19 m, it would fit exactly (fingers crossed). Comments (2)My parents living room has a very similar dimension and layout as yours. The questions I’ve are if the double door area has high traffic? Do you watch a lot of TV? My parents place layout is two three seater sofa facing each other in front of the fireplace with a TV console on the wall opposite, and bookshelves on both sides of the fireplace. My father watches a lot of TV in the evening whilst my mum doesn’t and she uses the space during the day to read and receive friends. The sofas facing each other creates a more formal space for conversation. For your space, I personally won’t have two sofas but one sofa with two armchairs, maybe mid century style on the side to the conservatory. For the conservatory, I could see both rectangular, square or circular dining table work. It depends on your lifestyle again. For example if you regularly have a lot of people for dinner, then a circular might be better. Whilst if normally, you only have less than 4, I might go for rectangular or square. As it allows portion of the table to have a vignette of magazines, candles and vases / plants. I’ve a 6 people dining table and mostly just two of us. So we use it for coffee, reading, more plants and books on one end. If you’d like to spend a lot of time in the conservatory, I’d incline to add seatings like 1 or 2 armchairs, a little sideboard or table to put a lamp to give different lighting level. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. 8 years agoHi. I agree with Inga re furniture and layout but I'd put the bookcase behind the sofa on the lilac ŵall and paint it in the ŵall colour. I think you need to try and bring the ceiling height down with the rooms proportions.
I'd go for white where the lilac currently is. You could then either paint the ceiling in navy or paint a navy border around the whole room. I've found a pic in your suggested colours but in reverse but the border would need to be deeper
