Horribly shower room!

I have a small shower room which is badly in need of refurbishment. The challenges I have is a rotten wooden window within the shower which I can't replace with UPVC as the house is very old and listed, the ventilation is very poor so I think I need to fully tile as paint just seems to peel off and we also have some terrible boxing that takes up space! Any ideas very welcome! Regards Olivia

You need to replace the rotten window first and foremost, even if you have to have one built, a rotten window will cause more damage to anything you do, start there, if the house is for sale , I would take down the shower doors clean it up give it a fresh coat of paint and call it done

to help the humidity and therefore the mould you can get a really great extractor. Some people have more than one.

In my last house I had an oversized fan in the attic space and vents go up to the roof and down to the bathroom. This arrangement was chosen as it was quieter.

I personally wonder why anyone ever had a wet room, they're so hideously impractical and should be reserved for people with bathing difficulties! A shower roon and utility combined is far better, keep it that way, Where would you put the washer / dryer? you can't keep it in a wet room it'll go rusty.

So do you mean you don't want them painted? It's almost impossible to tell what is or isn't veneered if they're painted. The doors in white above are just pine bi-fold available from most DIY stores - I doubt they're veneered. The Grey ones are original victorian doors which have been painted. They would be solid wood, the ones above are composite to keep the light when hanging as they're bi-fold. I think you mean that you want two solid wood doors and not four bi-fold. Is that right? In which case, they're still easily changed and if you want re-claimed doors just have a look on google at reclaim yards near you or Ebay is a great source for older style doors. This site UK- Heritage is great for old doors.

glass splashbacks or printed corian can look stunning in a shower, no grout to clean no fading grout and you can choose from artwork from a collection of images or have your favourite view to look onto. Agree with the others that you need to replace the window first before you go any further, otherwise you will always have problems. The shower is also very large for the small room. Is there any way that you could re-configure the room to have an enclosed shower on the wall opposite the loo? With the boxed in pipes, you may find if you dismantle it - the box does not need to be so large. If you do not want tiles (which personally I hate because of the grouting) - how about wall boards. These go from floor to ceiling, can be cut to size, and no grouting. Presumably you open the window for ventilation - so a fan is not needed.
