Exterior paint colour to compliment anthracite

Hi! I am in a dilemma - I have chosen a lovely dark grey paint for my exterior walls, but am not sure what colour to paint the plaster bands around the windows. There is a face brick band just below the roof, so the plaster band colour needs to tie in with this. Any great ideas? We are also surrounded by lovely natural open spaces.

Hi Ellie. Rather than change the colour of the rendering on the bottom, you could have it professionally cleaned - using a “soft wash” technique, NOT jet washing. It would bring it back to a lovely colour. We have a local company called Blue Lagoon Softwash who do this in the Northwest. Not sure where you are but you could find another local company - just make sure they do “SoftWash Solutions” as that’s the technology needed ...

I agree with the above. Is it your preference not to be too different or is it actually a rule for your house/area? "in keeping" is a very subjective term. A house is in keeping as long as some elements like size, proportion, colour, material are reflected elsewhere. I would say your houses are not "in keeping" but identical. I agree with @Barbara in that if you make a big change that looks beautiful other neighbours will follow suit.

I totally agree with colourhappy. i can see you added a photo to your ideabook (feel like I’m spying but was seeing if you’d saved any photos!) which looks lovely. I can’t tell if a lighter shade has been used above the windows or just the variance in the different materials being painted but in any case i think i’d paint everything in the same colour bar the door (we did the same on our house and the architectural features still stand out). You can also have upvc windows painted so would consider doing that in the same colour or literally just one shade lighter or as colourhappy said you would be highlighting the windows. The plants look lovely too!

To get a clear view of what colour your windows and doors are i had a quick google, from the majority of the pictures no one had really painted render other than an off white however they have also mixed white stone and yellow brick so its a bit of a mixed bag. These are two that i thought looked really good.
