basin splashback?

Is this just paint behind the sink, not a tile splashback? Does this work in terms of not getting water on the wall behind? love to know, as facing similar situation in new house.

Correct, it is just paint. This is a guest bath that does not get high traffic. The paint we chose is suitable for bathrooms and is wipeable. If your bathroom is high traffic I suggest a proper backsplash of least 4".

Personally I dislike fully tiled bathrooms. They feel very clinical with all that hard surface- and expensive in terms of square metres of tiles required and the tiler's costs. We want to fell comfortable, naked in a bathroom, so I think keep tiling to a minimum. Basin splashback, about 20-30 cm around a bath and obviously fully tiled around shower. That also gives you the opportunity to paint the remainder of the room any colour and to change it as often as you like, if you go for neutral tiles. Not sure its on houzz but if you google terence conran bathroom then his bathroom comes up with a fireplace and armchair and lots of soft surfaces. i appreciate few of us have bathrooms on that scale but the principle of comfort and soft surfaces is possible in a bathroom of any size.

I agree that contrasting finishes can look more interesting...think contrasting bag and shoes! Black and chrome would work fine, as would black and brass (and definitely on trend). And you're right, if you live in and around London, you have hard water scale build up to deal with. Just be aware, brass fittings take more care (and are more expensive)...i.e. more time in cleaning and you have to be careful with what you clean them with. If not cared for properly, they will eventually go black - literally! So, if you love scrubbing, then brass does look great...but if you'd rather be doing something else with your time, beside polishing your brass taps to perfection...then chrome is more practical. Hope that helps!

@Sonia, Stevenage Glass will do anything you like as long as it’s made of glass. I had two glass splashback a made by Stevenage Glass - a black one for my kitchen which they measured and fitted for me that cost more but the measurements were critical and I didn’t want to get it wrong, but the small white glass one for my en suite basin was a piece they literally had lying around so I got that one at a discount and fitted it myself with their recommended adhesive
