Country Kitchen needing a bit of spark
Comments (1)Add crown molding, to cover gaps next to ceiling. Think about painting cabinets or changing the doors for new. Maybe a new counter top and tile back splash. I'm currently working on a new country style kitchen. We are changing the base bottom doors with Showplace Wood Product- Renew product in a Cherry Russet in Vintage distressed finish. The upper are going to be in a white painted door in also Vintage distressed finish and brown brushed glazing. A recommending my client to go with a new tile back splash. Comments (5)Louise, I can't tell material condition from the picture, but if the pulls are showing age or wear, replacing them will be the first and least expensive update. Next would be the back splash, and adding under-cabinet lighting. Next, the countertops, including the tabletop. Then, painting or replacing the cabinetry. Before you begin the project, establish a budget, and stick to it. Once you have a fixed budget, you can start obtaining pricing on individual items, using a priority list like the one I provided. Pricing varies based on region, so only trust that which you obtain from pros in your area. Rich...See MoreHelp! My living room looks a bit dull.
Comments (15)1. Curtains It depend of the orientation and if you are overlooked. The double rail is a good idea to give you privacy in the evening with a second layer of curtains. Just be aware when choosing the colours of the fabric on the sides during the day, it can really suck up light and it looks like a large window. The pole could be black or copper as Minnie suggested, picking up the browns of floor and accessories. See trough curtains like light coloured veil with a simple vertical stripes pattern will maximise the natural light. 2. Rugs Definitely patterned, geometric or abstract. http://wovenground.net/modern/abstract/canevas-_-abstract/stone Low pile or high pile? It also depend on your life style ... have you got pet, children or allergies? The high pile need a bit more attention. 3. Walls The kitchen can be treated as a separate space and painted in a different colour. The room is quite narrow so keep it light and preferably not feature wall on the wider side as it will make the room feeling even more narrow. A feature wall is used to bring the room's shape back in proportion. 4. Mirror above the radiator A round mirror, or a square will break the length of the room better then a rectangular one. It will be the first thing you see entering? Have fun and send pic of the before and after :-)...See MoreKitchen a bit too beige!
Comments (21)Thanks for all your suggestions. Just thought I would update you with some initial changes I have made. Firstly I have a new table cloth and have moved the fruit bowl and added a few new accessories (have a new oven glove and some tea towels arriving too), but the biggest change so far is that I have painted the grouting on the floor tiles which I think has lightened the whole thing immensely (great tip!) and stopped it feeling quite so drab (and stopped me hating the tiles as much). Next stage is going to be for us to change the lights and get the ceiling skimmed. We are going to have many more LED spot lights (with possibly a hanging light over the table - although bit concerned might keep banging my head on this when leaning over the table but maybe not such an issue with a round table?) and was considering adding some small lights on the plinths / kick boards to bring some light up from floor level. We are also going to change the cupboard and drawer handles, art work (bringing out the green) and paint the walls (thinking white maybe with a hint of green?). Also thinking we will remove the wall tiles and just have a glass splash back behind the sink and hob. Changing the blinds and table / chairs will be a bit further down the line. Hadn't really thought of a round table but thinking maybe a round glass one with oak feet (have seen some nice ones) and some white slatted blinds. Thanks for your help so far and would be interested to know what you think?...See Moreminnie101
