Problems with living room, help please!

We have recently moved to a new build house with white walls throughout and north facing lounge. We have a beige carpet and heavy oak furniture just purchased. Our suite is brown therefore too much beige and brown going on and looks bland. However I have ordered pink/green floral curtains on ivory background for the large window/patio door and have decided to change the suite to two new sofas (much to our daughters delight!!!) my problem is what colour suite, seen light silver grey? and advice on wall colour. Any help would be appreciate before I make another purchase disaster. Thanks

Hi, We have some great advice on brightening rooms and colour schemes. As we can see from the photos you already have quite a neutral room colour, although the red may be darkening the room a little with the contrast of the dark furniture. How about lightening the room by getting rid of the red wall feature and carrying on with the neutral theme. Also by using lighter accessories (cream curtains) this will lighten your room. If you want to add more colour we suggest doing this through the use of accessories such as cushions and throws. I'm in nz we have wood frame walls!! But hey...get a sledge hammer and some post holding roof up things and rip the wall down and see!!?? If it makes your lounge work better for living...then why not. Or brick the door up if you don't really need it. On the other side in hall you could have a nice mud room layout with bench and hooks and storage boxes for shoes. Make that foyer really pop. Nice hall table, two lamps blah blah Opposite mud bench Then you have a 3 met wall in lounge to make pop .If no door is needed. You have new French doors anyway... Make the room more of a den than a hallway through to dining room..kitchen... Make it a nice cosy end space... Bricking up a door would be cheaper than moving it ...

Hi, I think I’d install some kind of sliding wall partition or double doors rather than a more permanent wall. That way you have more options - ie having the space fully open to have it lighter & to be able to see both gardens (while the Xbox isn’t being used) or closed when needed. I think I’d divide the space as it currently is with the current door into the office space. If it were just for an office, I’d put the dividing wall / doors just at the end of the desk but if you also want it as a snug, I think a bit more room would be useful. You could add another doorway from the dining room into the lounge area but that might cause problems with furniture placement.
