White and light required, many questions!
Comments (49)I don't mind the current colours although a greys and beiges tend to suck light out of a room, a brighter colour rather than just white will help. I agree with much of what Jill says above, with a few tweaks ... the lighting needs attention. The room needs some interest, colour and texture to create depth. Get a larger rug, more colourful, with organic pattern which draws the eye outward. Big enough to sit the furniture on. Pick up some of the colours from the new rug and get some cushions. A couple of plants would help with texture and add life to the room. I know you are using the mirrors to add light and space but the one under the stairs is just reflecting the underneath of the stairs ... try a colourful print of a pathway between trees for example, to draw the eye beyond the room otherwise it's a bit bland. The TV is just on a stand that is too small and a bit low, go for a wider piece or try positioning the unit against the other wall in that same corner so it is facing the sofas, then the TV won't look so out of balance. If you make the room a bit livelier and interesting the light issue won't be such a problem. Consider pale turquoise walls for example rather than just white and add some artwork....See Morebuilt in same colour as walls or woodwork?
Comments (31)You certainly have the height to carry such a look but I wonder whether you would lose the definition in some of that beautiful cornice? I like ceilings painted the same colour as the walls. I considered one shade lighter (ie ammonite) to have a slight contrast. You could also paint the cornice white and the ceiling cornforth but I think that is a more traditional look. On balance my favourite would be the cornice and ceiling painted one shade lighter. What have you done in the rest of the house with the ceilings?...See Morecorner fireplace - free standing or built in?
Comments (20)So, I had a change of thought following everyone's ideas and input - what do you think? The main feature / wow factor of the room is the garden view from the large door. The woodburner / fireplace is secondary. Along the back wall, we shall build a false wall approx 400mm deep, this will house the inset fire (considering children in this and remembering how my poor kitten jumped on the top of the wood burner and burnt his paws last winter). The unit will have shelves, lighting and be an entertainment centre and the TV will be in the back corner (could be hidden with a painting if necessary) and can pivot forward to watch as a family. - Similar to 2nd image. Long narrow shelves - decorative feature. I like this stovax inset fire. TV to the left of inset fire something like this below TV. The inset log burner can have a flue that has 4 x 45 degree angles if necessary to get up the roof and flue at the corner of the building - maybe even bringing the flue nearer to the upstairs window. Framing the large window, I can have lights, floor lamps, pictures etc. I would like to have curtains / voile to frame the window. Then built into the ceiling we could have cinema projector which faces the smaller door and the blind will be a white blackout blind also acting as projector screen for those night time cinema nights with popcorn! Rough mock up a it takes so long to put walls in and to design an entertainment centre, Please note, the furniture in my revit model is very limited but this is the model we have used to design the house at the beginning. Where the red arrow is - this is blackout blind projector screen ceiling mounted Any thoughts?...See MoreIdeas lighting a home office & gaming room?
Comments (5)I think because you have the length/depth of the desk, I would suggest running the lighting behind the desk (so similar to your final example but running in the L shape!). I only have experience using these lights in kitchen bars but attached is a link which would be super easy for you to install yourself. Under Cabinet Lighting...See MoreHillman Gardens
