What colour worktop in my bathroom please

Hi. Redoing bathroom and using these tiles. White recessed sink and loo in matt white built-in units. Mirrored cupboards above. What worktop colour should I go for and what colour flooring (probably vinyl). Probably use multi coloured tile (horizontally) as splash back behind sink and continue as horizontal stipe around the room. Thanks.

Hi Stefka, The bathroom is coming along nicely. Is the bath panel a match to the sink base? What material is the floor, vinyl or wood? If it's wood and you're not happy with the colour, have you considered either bleaching it, then colour washing it to a similar colour to the tiles around the bath or staining it darker? (Going darker will make the bathroom seem smaller.) To keep the textures and colours as simple as possible, paint the plaster walls a colour that is 2-3 shades lighter than the square wall tiles. A different colour will chop the room up more. A big mirror over the sink ledge, wall to wall, will make a huge difference to the feel of the room. It will reflect light all around and visually double the space. Colour can be added through towels and accessories like special bottles for oils and lotions. Your tiles look to be a pinky beige so look at neutrals or pale turquoise. Plastic shutters can be wiped down with ammonia and water in the course of cleaning the bathroom and allow access to the window for cleaning and ventilation.

My personal preference is only to tile the necessary areas in a bathroom especially in the UK, a totally tiled bathroom will feel much colder and harder. It's also possible to wallpaper in a bathroom as long as the ventilation is good and you coat the wallpaper in a wallpaper matt varnish, 4 coats rolled on will protect it (see pic.). The bathroom scheme all depends on your personal preference and how you want it to feel e.g. calm and serene or dramatic and exciting. Match in the vanity colour (see tips from Man About The House) for a calm palette.

Seems a shame to do anything to the cupboards at all, they’re really nice. They don’t look yellow on my iPad, but often colours aren’t true on devices. Painting them is an option but it does depend what they are made of. If they are painted wood then go ahead - a light sand, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of eggshell. If they are wrapped in plastic, then I’m not sure you can paint them? I’ve never used sticky back plastic to cover cupboards so cannot advise on that. There are quite a few crafty people on Houzz so hopefully they can advise. If you can and do decide to paint, I think charcoal grey or taupe would look very smart.

Keep trying toronto18 as sometimes it takes a few goes.. just click the photo icon and add as you would... If it doesn't add try again.. Stick to earthy shades..as per the tile colours.. That way you create a cohesive scheme.. : ))
