The timber worktop is reclaimed iroko chemistry lab tops and the island is Silestone.

You have a few ways to get round this, I doubt diy kitchens would be able to do this for you but your fitter should be able to, but bearing in mind a lot of hobs now also specify the fitting of a heat resistant board and an air gap even 60mm might not be enough. the top cutlery drawer can be lowered by about 12-15mm and the drawer front repositioned is easy to do change the pan drawer to a 2 drawer with internal drawer, if diy kitchens use blum tandembox drawers, these pan drawers come in 2 heights and change the top pan drawer (type D 224mm) for the type C which has a lower back and gallery rail at 162mm, the internal drawer can then be lowered, you might have to source your own drawer boxes. change the drawer unit to a 1 pan and 3 cutlery drawer and dummy the top drawer if diy kitchens have 175 tall drawer fronts at 800 wide (doubt it) then have a 1 pan drawer at 355 tall and 2 cutlery drawers at 175 consider a 'true handleless' design which has a handle rail machined into the carcase of about 60mm so the drawers are well clear of the hob, don't believe diy kitchens offer 'true handleless' though. looking at your picture i'd also check that the extractor is going to fit in the gap between the wall units.

Quartz worktop issue - help needed!

Its hard to tell because of the shadow that the upstand is casting. There should be more quartz at the back to allow for the tap. Mine is in the middle between the upstand and the sink. The quartz running past at the front is narrower. The tap is too close to the upstand. Was the quartz templated properly? Undermount sinks are normally fixed with their lip resting on a batten frame. Was this slightly off centre? It's not correct. I wouldn't accept this, its an expensive mistake.

How practical? they're not, just a waste of time/money as they don't have the fall in the grooves to drain water away. The only practical reason for the grooves is when you stand glasses on it to drain they wont vacuum to the worktop, you're better off using a tea towel on the worktop to drain your washing up and having more worktop prep space. They also collect limescale in hard water areas. Agree with Daisy, the modern way is not to have them, can't remeber the last time a customer insisted on having them and any customers who has wanted them once i've shown them my pros/cons drainer grooves brochure they've agreed that they're not worth it, haven't missed them and appreciated the extra usable work top they have. If you're worried about water running over the side of the worktop than as Jonathan has shown a recessed drainer is the best option.

What is the material of the actual worktop? It sounds like laminate from your description. You could try and paint it but its a heavily used and cleaned item so there are no guarantee's that it will stand up to constant use even with the correct primer. I think its a waste of time and money but if you are aware that it is unlikely to work then its your choice. I would just live with it until you can afford to change it.
