Ideas or advice on a blank canvas bungalow

Maybe create a folder and just save images you like (of any style) and then go back over your saved photos and delete the ones you actually don't like (it's surprising how often you get a "why did I like that?" moment). Then have a look at your revised list and see what you have been most drawn to. There will always be a few anomalies but in general, there will be some sort of pattern there. I like the fireplace too and when I saw the colour, my first thoughts were navy walls and lots of texture. If navy is a little dark for your taste what about a different shade of blue? Blue and leather look so beautiful together. This would work with your existing items (including the carpet although are you changing this to vinyl?) and also anything new you would like to add in. If you were thinking of changing the kitchen, you could also carry the blue accents into the kitchen. I've included a few photos (of different styles and blues for inspiration) x...See MoreHelp with blank canvas garden
Comments (5)Hi, to me it seems that you have a bit of a patio overkill. You need to know where you want the shaded dining area, a sunny patio area, maybe somewhere where you can enjoy a morning coffee in the sun or get the last sunrays on a summer evening. That all depends on how your garden is situated. Do you want to grow vegetables, do you want to spend time attending to flowerbeds (if you do them well, they aren't that time-consuming)? You need to know the size of the garden and draw a rough plan of what you would like to have where. Think it might be a good idea to get a garden designer/landscaper on board. I'd want to remove the lower patio, replace it with grass and flowerbeds, and place the steps from the upper patio in the middle. I think that the quickest way of making the patio edge safer for your fearless toddler, is putting big planters all along the edge. If you decide to change the patio at a later date, you can always reuse the planters elsewhere in the garden. Some inspirational photos for you....See MoreGarden design on a budget, blank canvas
Comments (0)I have removed all vegetation and had digger flatten this area of my bungalow. I now need to out it back together! I'm hoping to lay patio parallel to rear of bungalow (where the sand base is, it was a patio previously) as french doors will open onto that area. Other than that I'm not sure! need some turf, poss some gravel areas. might leave behind garage as chipings/gravel/planting area. any ideas welcome! I have quotes to repair/straighten fences, replace gravel boards and wood panels on right side. was thinking paint the back gravel board fence a charcoal grey. would LOVE any suggestions please....See More41m x 7m garden - blank canvas!
Comments (15)Overall I think what works so well in the examples shared is having interesting spaces down the length of the garden, giving you reasons to move down towards the end rather than what we do currently - spend 90% of the time in the first 10% of the garden unless we need to go to the shed at the end! I've done some sketching and I'm leaning towards the idea of breaking the space up into diagonal sections (like Wumi suggested) at 30º angles which should create more side to side interest and draw your eye around and down the space, with nice corners for plants that can mature into screening like Angie's garden. I also like the idea of completely seperating the rear of the garden with fencing the same height as the side fences, with a gated opening in. Behind that gate the idea of a japanese inspired secret garden with a water feature and oritental inpisred plants excite me. I'll attach what I've come up with so far. Thanks to everyone that took the time to respond, each comment has been really helpful....See MoreLaura Betchette
