Marble dilema

Ok so here is the rub. I really, really, really want marble worktops but know that would be kitchen suicide given the amount of turmeric and lemon we use. I have looked at all the non marble options and do not love any of them enough to pay the price for quartz or dekton/neolith lookalikes. Am i missing anything? If not, i was thinking my compromise would be a beautiful marble splash back with a different worktop but i am stumped to think what would work well with classic/plain shaker units and marble splash back. Any idea and more importantly pictures/photos please?

Then use a contemporary colour palate. Greys look great. Alternatively white with a pop of bright accent colours. Where you are putting in fittings choose a cleaner more modern look. For example- wood floors: choose a wood that is not yellow and favour a grey undertone. Carpet- think modern classics such as stripes or textured natural carpets. Period features- if you are reinstating then go for the grandness of the original features but choose plainer- think plain but sizeable coving and fireplaces in a pale choice much as marble or cast iron inserts painted white.

We are not finished yet but had the same dilema as you. Also a similar shape (L shape around island). We fell in love with a wood herringbone floor but practically it was a bad idea in the kitchen area. We ended up tiling the L shape and (although kitchen isn't finished yet) we are VERY happy with the decision. We would have been paranoid as anything to get water on wood.

Ok, so looking at F&B Pigeon, there is a Dulux colour Delicate Willow at is very similar. Cardroom Green (in my eyes anyway!) is a touch bluer than Pigeon, but you really need to try the colour in your kitchen with the light on it and against it, ceiling lights on and off to tell what it will really look like. There is another colour in the Dulux Signature range - Pebble (it’s upside down In the photo). Wild eden is a great colour but probably closer to your Cardroom Green. Just thought it might be easier to get Dulux, but I know there is a global shortage of paint looming, if it hasn’t arrived yet.🙂

I have lagoon, it is really lovely, but you have to love it given the cost. Have you been to a stone merchants and seen the full sized slabs? I've seen this kitchen in real life and the black marble is stunning. It has a real wow! When I asked about it the kitchen supplier suggested not trying to match a white marble splashback with a white silestone as it wouldn't look quite right.

makes sense campo73 but if you were set on a white & grey veined marble splash back what would you go for. I've seen lagoon in a longer run worktop and i have to keep going back to see it to decide if i like it, which makes me worry i am not "in love" with it. Love the black marble by the way but not going to work in my space as it's too dark.

It sounds like the marble you like is calacatta rather than Carrara marble. Does the marble have dramatic grey veining through it? Lagoon would be more representative of Carrara marble.

I think if you were dead set on the marble for the splashback and it is a big enough piece to create a dramatic focal point I'd be tempted to consider a plain white or light grey silestone for the worktop (depending on the paint colour you have chosen for the cabinets). Dekkon does a calacatta lookalike but it looks very fake to me.

Maybe someone on here has experience of marble worktops which could alleviate your fears although I have to agree they don't seem to be very practical.

Hope those photos help, some of the splashbacks are marble tile but it's the same effect, all the worktop are silestone type material. I think the combination of a marble splashback and plain white or grey worktop looks stunning.

thanks campo - the first one is my fave - do you think it would work with grey green units if the veining was a lighter grey?

Yes I do think it would work, do you have a sample of the cabinet colour to post a photo? Ideally you should get a sample of the marble, the silestone, a cabinet door, the flooring and wall paint colour card and place them together to see if they work but in essence the combination sounds beautiful.
