Lounge ideas

Just moved into our new home and I am struggling with ideas for the lounge. The carpet is brown as well as the door and skating. Will be painting the skating and door white soon.

I am struggling to find a rug and curtains that's easy to manage as we have two toddlers. The sofas are brown leather and I am happy to change the cushions if possible

Any advice or makeover ideas are welcome. Thank you

Hello! Do you want to keep red as an accent? If not, you could try green cushions, and a medium-dark green rug, which may help in concealing spills. your current curtain colour looks fine to me, but if you'd like to change it, how about a lighter brown, perhaps with some rust orange/green in it.
if you don't want bold colour, a brown rug and neutral beige curtains may work.
if you think its likely they'd be messed, get machine washable curtains.

Thank you very much for the advice. I was looking at getting a beige rug. The curtains are really dated and not to my taste so was looking at these as shown in the picture.

I would personally have linear storage/ shelves the whole wall, with bench/ sideboard closed storage along on floor ... to store books, tv, electronic stuff, toys, decorative objects ... even maybe have a little bench area for kids .... difficult to explain, so I attached photos! Would be so practical whilst beautiful! Ps: try not to put the tv on wall, but rather on a low furniture!!

I love Fran's idea - she had me at 'bar'. If you don't want to move the dining table though, you could try the two, sofas facing each other, slightly over to the fire side of the wall so not blocking the doorway and arch to the kitchen. If you moved the sofa a little out of the bay window and then placed the other one a, little, further back, so encroaching part of the other room you'd be playing with the proportions of the space and using a bit more of the middle room. You could get another chair then for where you've moved the sofa from. I think it's good you've got your gifted sofas at the minute, because you can play around with the arrangement and decide what works before making your choice of what you'll eventually replace them with. I know the pics I'm attaching below, different proportions but hopefully you'll get an idea of what I mean. I think the pic with the chaise between two spaces is fab but I'm not sure that it'd ever be more than a big ornament??

Hi, I don't think it necessarily needs more colour. But it does need more personality, which you can bring in with art and accessories. I like the basket, the buckets and the wooden beam over the fireplace. I'd keep to that style. It really goes well with the tartan cushions on your sofas. And a plant or two will bring more life into the room too. Maybe a bit of a nature theme, with textured vases and lamps and nature themed prints. In an ideal world, I'd remove the vertical blinds and the maybe the curtains too, and replace them with either semi transparant roller blinds or Roman blinds in a sort of textured linen look fabric or a faux silk perhaps. that looks good! You can have your curtains as the focus, a beige rug as you said, and get scatter cushions based on a colour or two from the curtains.
