Need help with painting a feature wall

So I want to paint a grey and white stripped feature wall in my bedroom, but I need help on which colour to put first? I have a white ceiling so I was thinking grey closest to the ceiling? I also don't know whether thin or thick stripes will look better? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Paint the Wall completely white first. When it is completely dry ( a few days ), buy some LOW tac decorators tape and mask off the edges of where you want the grey and then paint the grey. Grey at the top sounds good, it will define the ceiling / wall areas.

Re the paint colour I wouldn't recommend white it will be very stark, you need something warmer with possibly a taupe or heather tone, this will work well with your scheme. Re the spot lights, you can go for energy efficient LED's, they come in white or warm white. The warm white give off a warmer light, similar to what we are used to from our traditional light bulbs. The warm whites vary hugely from brand to brand, so view them before buying them. I would recommend a dimmer switch so you can control the amount of light. Not all fittings are suitable for dimming. Re the mirror I wouldn't put gold as you have a chrome fire surround. But burnished metals are perfect. Good luck.

Hi you two, you've been so very helpful. I've ordered a few GP & J samples so I can't wait to get them! You've been great with advise so much so I recommended Houzz on Facebook, not your names specifically incase you didn't want that but you've certainly helped me. Don't think I'll go for an aqua wallpaper I think it might be a bit much as I'd like to paper all the walls up to pic rail, then paint above, but I love the herons - unusual, modern yet in keeping. Sometimes I wish we didn't have a period property as there is a lot of work to do. We moved in in March and it's an uphill struggle but I know it will be worth it in the end! I'm currently covered in wallpaper & paint specks.

You could go for completely white washable Matt, then around each boys bed you could have objects on shelves, rugs etc that are particular to them and their ages. This will help you create a room applicable to both boys. Plain white will also make the room look larger. You could also go for a pale light blue or a light grey as a base and do the same with shelving for night lights etc.
