Ideas for open plan kitchen with living area
Comments (1)I wonder if you could use the front of the room as a sitting area, mid area as a TV zone - you could place your TV on the wall on the side of the stairs. Then the rear as a kitchen/dining zone. I would be tempted to look at some sort of room divider - maybe a open thru display case between the formal area/TV zone or the TV zone/kitchen area. This should help to create definition between the areas and make the room look bigger too. Comments (21)As a tile importer and retailer, it's very rare for a porcelain tile to crack if installed properly. I'd not recommend juggling your Le Creuset to test the theory though... More and more tilers are using a decoupling matting such as Durabase to take as much movement out of the tile as possible. We also supply flexible adhesive and grout, so with a properly flat floor, it's rare for us to get a call from a grumpy client. We supply a lot of large format "infinity" look tiles, where you have an identically sized anti-slip External version of the Interior tile. Most are 8-9mm, so need a concrete base that mirrors the internal floor. If there is a 20mm version, then a sand & cement base can be used. As for kitchens, always tile the entire floor before the kitchen goes in. This means that the kitchen installer has a blank canvas to work on. It also means that the floor is completely sealed, so the chances of liquid ingress under the tiles (under the units) is pretty much nil. Finally, it also means that if you have any white goods that fail under the work surface, they can just be slid out, rather than having to remove what could be long an heavy lump of marble or granite to get them out. The additional cost will be negligible compared to an insurance claim......See MoreOpen plan or semi open plan? Floor plan / furniture layout help please
Comments (5)Hi all, Thank you for your comments; I appreciate them! Natasha - the units you have suggested are very much what I had in mind. We will have a shaker kitchen and the media unit would also be shaker style and would have 4-6 cupboards with the TV in the middle with book shelves either side. Part of the reason we kept a partial wall was to make the space more usable. I can’t envision how the fully open plan room will be able to meet all our needs, but I am open to ideas! I feel that open plan would be more impressive, but potentially less usable. With regards to the doors. I do plan to reverse the doors both into the kitchen and family room part, but couldn’t work out how to do it on the app I used for the floor plan. It is a 1920s house and we have the original doors which we are planning to keep. We are also keeping a lot of floor space as when the table is not extended, we still have young children with lots of Lego and trains etc. I plan for these to be hidden in the cupboards at bedtime. J - we haven’t installed the kitchen but we have ordered it and paid a big deposit. Some of the units are bespoke/irregular sizes and I don’t think we would be willing to change this. I have attached a photo of our rendered kitchen plan. Thanks again for your comments. It is good to have other people’s opinions and ideas....See MoreFlooring ideas for large open plan kitchen/lounge area
Comments (6)Wooden floors would look great - if the rooms are long and narrow lay the planks horizontally as this will make the rooms appear wider - if they are short and wide lay them vertically to make them appear longer - you could compromiise by laying wood look tiles in the kitchen but wood throughout will look more streamlined - we have wood on our open plan Floors and a massive rug in the living room - easy to change a rug as you change colour schemes - not so with fitted carpets! Good luck...See MoreKharis & Kale Interiors
