Curtains and feature wall
Comments (9)Definitely paint the whole wall aubergine but not including the fireplace. That will create a nice contrast. If you decide on wallpaper only go for plain/textured rather than pattern. Regarding the window treatment, I'd use curtain panels on either side for decorative purposes only to tie the whole look together and use venetian blinds on windows. I wrote a blog about blinds. You can read it on http://karolinabarnes.co.uk/blog/designer-tips-on-blinds/. If you like pattern include it through cushions, rug and decorative accessories such as vase, plant pots etc. Use tall table lamps or floor lamps on either side of the sofa to balance the window area height and use neutral tones on the shade (if patterned ) or rather completely plain. Think about the colour balance. Too much of one colour is too overpowering. Use the 60%-30-30%-10% rule when using pattern and colour. I have lots of free advice on my blog but please contact me if you need more help. I'm happy to help. Karolina...See MoreWhat colour feature wall?
Comments (4)Agree with ribeno that the feature wall needs to work with the blue in your dining room. If you are replacing the carpet and you want a rug then I would recommend a wood floor rather than a carpet. Rugs work much better on wood floors. Something like this geometric Harlequin rug would pick out the colours of your sofa and chair and also tone with the blue wall in your dining room....See MoreFeature wallpaper but what curtains?
Comments (5)I quite like both of above ideas - perhaps combined. - Eg. textured gold velvet. Another option could be a nice airy neutral like ivory. If you want to cool the palette a little - depends on which wall colour you go for of course. If you go with a texture or pattern go with a smaller scale than the wallpaper pattern scale, Something gentle and subtle. If you go more neutral the ivory or cream might be nice with some texture. Just be aware darker the material on the window (rather than lighter colour) will take light from room. Good luck....See MoreBedroom - curtains with this feature wallpaper
Comments (9)Thank you Sonia and Rachel! Sonia, those pictures are really helpful. I love the idea of velvet for the curtains, it makes a plain colour a bit more interesting. Thank you! Rachel, yes we wanted something really bold on one wall. It's quite a small area because we have a fairly low picture rail, and the bed will cover some of it. We're having two white floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes opposite, either side of a chimney breast, and we'll paint the walls a soft colour to match a shade in the paper. It's just this big bay window I'm not sure about - basically one whole wall is window and curtains (it's a typical master bedroom in a 1930s 3 bed semi). Plain seems boring but pattern will be difficult with the wallpaper......See MoreAlenaCDesign
