Bath in shower? Advice on layout of bathroom

OK, so we now have a bathroom 1700 mm x 2715 mm. The stairs for the floor above cut through the bathroom at the end opposite the window, next to the door.
The only thing we can't really move is the soil pipe (20x20) in the corner.
We like the idea of a separate shower and one way would be to put the shower alongside the bath and tile the tray. If the bath is fitted, do we need to tank all under the bath or can we just waterproof up the side of the bath
?
Or should we move the bath under the window and have a shower elsewhere?

I swapped the shower round and also tried a separate shower. I think the separate shower is a bit of a squeeze but I'm concerned about the waterproofing with the bath in the shower.

Comments (29)Hi Richard, My thoughts, (and I'm not an expert, so just a personal opinion), but I think the wetroom idea will be a total nightmare to keep clean. I would also be concerned that it not would be the safest option with young children in the house. Unless you are going to meticulously dry the floor down after every shower, anyone using the room afterwards, washing their hands at the sink for example would need to walk on a wet and possibly slippery floor. Also not ideal if you walk around the house in socks.... wet feet.. :-/ Even with really good drainage the floor would remain wet for some time after each shower. These concerns may only bother me though, these things are so subjective, but I always consider how much work will be involved in keeping a room clean and looking great....and the fact that the bath would get wet and no doubt splatted with shampoo and shower gel every time someone showered would have me in there constantly cleaning. This option is definitely also the more costly option as tanking would be required, and I you plan to sell in a year or so, I am not sure it would add value equivalent to your spend on the room. Comments (13)If you're thinking of sticking with a freestanding bath with no screen or curtain around the shower, you are still creating a wet room. If that's what you want and you have the budget for it, it could work - but as I mentioned earlier wet rooms are expensive as you have to tank the room (as far as I understand it). I also personally don't like them because a lot of the floor gets wet and there are splashes everywhere - more cleaning and it's difficult to get dry! Maybe I've only experienced badly designed ones though... The other option would be to have a normal bath (not freestanding) with a screen, or a freestanding one with a screen or curtain (if you google you'll see a few examples). Comments (0)Help! We're planning an extension and re-jigger the layout of our very narrow house. The house is a typical narrow old victorian terrace in London. Currently the full bathroom is on the ground floor, in the back of the ground floor. And there's an ensuite shower in the loft. With the extension, we're thinking of removing the full bath from the ground floor, changing the shower in the loft into a shower/bath and adding a shower to the 1st floor. Due to the narrowness of the house, it's difficult to put a full bath without compromising the rooms. But I really dislike having the full bath on the ground floor in favor of a larger kitchen / dining area. Thoughts on: Whether its weird to have a full bath in the loft and a shower-only room on the 1st floor? Would this be an issue with kids? (we don't have any but plan to) Fitting a shower/bath in the loft feels changing with the slanted roof. My husband is tall so finding the right spot for the toilet is a bit challenging. Comments (7)I think as long as the wc boxing is the same height as the hall height tiles it will all blend and look quite clean. found this pic on pinterest, I know it’s full height tiles and all same tiles but might help visualise how the boxing will look next to shower there’s a free 3d design app i used when doing my bathroom called visoft smart, you can put in all different boxings and different sections of tiles etc, would highly recommend if you’re handy with design programmes, if not let me know and if i get time this evening or over the weekend i’ll do a quick mock-up of your shower/toilet area for you...See Morek11agl
8 years agoI've always wanted a wet room with the shower enclosure also accommodating a bath :) ok I see what you mean. In that case I prefer the second photo (wet room). It might also be more straight forward if all the plumbing is on one side - the one where the soil pipe is, if you struggle fitting all the sanity ware, I'd be tempted to try a stylish freestanding bath and place it at an angle, filler pipe and tap in the corner under the window, then you have a bit more space for the shower. Place the loo under the eave I think, it should be affected the least by the low ceiling? Below a photo of our ensuite, the eave is fine with the basin and toilet both under it, but our door is in the middle and the shower is on the other side. I'd try Bathstore if you are not fussed about designer brands, they have a good range of stuff and good shower screens and I have done two bathrooms previously using just their products.

8 years agoSomething like this would be quite cool. Except with the bath long ways against that back wall. Kinda like your second floor plan there.
