Basement layout help

We are remodeling our basement. It is a nice blank slate. See our renderings for reference. Our biggest dilemma is kitchen layout. We planned on placing the kitchen/bar in the center but discovered the support posts in walls as pictured. Trying to design a usable and beautiful layout while hiding the posts inside decorative features. Also have a 9 foot pool table to properly place. Any ideas Houzz??? Many thanks.

Are you aware of these size requirements for a pool table? What part of your space would be most adequate for the table? Does the bar need to be wet? You can design it between the posts. Here's on with the post covered with metal - looks like it might be flashing material.
Here it looks like posts may have been wired for electric and covered with cabinetry styled wood and trim.

Comments (3)Hi Paul. Does the kitchen need to stay on the back wall? Can I also ask what are you looking to blend in with. I hope you don't mind me saying but have you thought about the size of the tv? We've got a 60inch tv in our basement room (about 4ft 5 wide) and the front of our sofa is 8ft from the tv. Im not sure you could go any closer to the tv and be able to see it. It looks as if your tv would be about 8ft wide so your sofa would need to be much further back. Comments (2)Hi Sarah, You can modify an existing extension, but in your case, as you said, you might need to replace the spanning beam - unless the structural engineer finds a way to extend this, but you will have a column inside the space, which might not be preferable. Full length bifolds, again depends on the structural design. You could probably have them, but not necessarily. There's plenty of design tricks with glazing to ensure it looks great and brings the right purpose. I wouldnt necessarily block the second entrance if I could. Relocating the toilet will be a game changer in my opinion, as it will open up the space even more and allow you to have a living area with dining as well. Also if you are hiring an architect, check with them the option to not extend the current side return, and modify the glazing & layout only, i think there's some potential there too. Comments (9)Thanks everyone. I think we are going to extend the hallway into the utility as this is the cheapest option and the utility needs doing anyway. We are going to remove some of the cupboards, so that the pushchair can go in the space created and move the sofa to block the playroom door... then we can test it out for a few weeks. I've reorganised the kitchen cupboards, moved the microwave and the plates etc and its made a big difference already to how the kitchen feels. Feeling positive :)...See More

8 years agoThanks for replies. The pool table can fit in center area (if the kitchen is placed around support posts), or left area behind couch placement. It will not fit on the right side play area.
We were using the picture below for inspiration but when the posts were found not to be parallel/symmetrical, it threw us for a loop.

8 years agoUnfortunately this is a design app I'm using so it doesn't display all the dimensions. This picture shows the overall floor size a little better though. Once I do a rough layout I go to SKETCHIT for my architectural plans.
