Need help with kitchen design
Hi all,
I'd really appreciate some help with planning my new kitchen layout, which is only 8' x 9'. I have an awkward chimney breast which is restricting the layout and so I've decided to open it up more, hoping for greater flexibility. I've added a photo of the chimney breast showing current layout and want to know if siting an eye level oven housing unit in the newly raised area would be too imposing for such a small kitchen. +
3 The hob would be sited in the opposite facing wall.
The chimney breast won't be removed completely but will be opened higher by 80cm to accommodate a standard tower. Ideas greatly appreciated and though I have plenty of natural light and a south facing kitchen, I plan on cream or light grey gloss cabinets hoping to make the kitchen look bigger.

8 years agoI had a very small kitchen in my terraced house but had a double oven in a housing with a cupboard underneath but a shelf on top instead of a cupboard. I found it better as when I opened the oven it wasn't squashed up against the other cupboard doors and it left more room for drawers.

Making the spaces work for our needs today, and for your own family needs have to be the priorities. I would suggest you appoint an interior designer before thinking in detail about the kitchen. An interior designer will find out how you want to use the space and come up with clever floor plan that is workable and beautiful. This is going to be a really important investment for you. Comments (11)Definitely no way!! You would regret losing part of the view to the garden. And it just doesn't make sense to have a bathroom off kitchen. Either do as bagpuss' plan above, or use that whole space for a shower/ bathroom if you need more facilities. If it was me, I'd like a utility area somewhere, perhaps you could combine this with shower room? Or have two separate rooms, wc and a single wall utility. If you do any laundry at home it is useful to have a dedicated space for this. Mine is approx 1.5m square but I'd be lost without it!! Attached pic of one Houzz one I like (seems to have popped into the middle somehow!) Wouldn't have to be this big even. 8 years agoThis was my kitchen . Living in the Shetland islands. Ok not restricted as small L shape but to the right of the sink was my fridge freezer and the kitchen door..and to left of the cooker was one small set of draws ... It tested me on many occasions.. Good luck in your project... Photos when completed.. Would be nice.
