My lounge space is awkward! What do you think of these floor plans?
Comments (21)It's a lovely light room but certainly a tricky one to furnish given the configuration of door with windows. Lesley345 is right that the easiest way to deal with it would be to consider it as a room of two halves to either side of the door. Then you can give each end a function so potentially the area to the left of the door where the TV is now could be a seating area and could take a corner sofa, while the opposite end could be more about watching the TV in the alcove and have a couple of comfortable chairs which could be easily adjusted in a situation where the TV was off and you had a larger group of friends/family around. you would then want to tie it all together by using a large rug to visually bring it all together. You could also look at having a projector rather than a TV and using the large white wall at one end to project onto. If watching TV isn't actually that important to you then you could create a seating area centrally to the room with the windows as the focal point and statement storage units/art work/piano at the ends of the room. It's not necessary to have furniture backed up against the walls and placing items centrally instead could help free up the way you consider the space. The key thing to do is to consider the activities that you want to do in the room most of the time and then decide on the furniture you need to support those activities, particularly considering ways to make things flexible and possibly multifunctional. Comments (10)your lovely kitchen seems to recede into the walls as in my opinion there is not enough contrast and wevet may have the same issue.....so personally I would choose a stronger colour....don't forget you won't see much as most of the wall is covered with cabinets. Also with a window and French doors and a pale reflective floor it will be reasonably light. Choose a colour that you like that is used elsewhere in the house that you like and it will lend continuity. how about Farrow and Balls India Yellow?...See MoreWhat colours can I use with my dark red leather sofa?
Comments (1)Hi there, It’s great to be able to work with a blank canvas and good fun too. I can see you love bold colours, but it can be hard to find the right balance sometimes. I would suggest a soft, calm colour on your walls which will enhance your furniture and create a real feature out of them. If you want to avoid cream, try a warm neutral tone such as Dulux Rich Praline 5. This gorgeous neutral will give your space a new look and complement your dark red sofas, allowing you to bring an accent colour in through accessories. Another tone that works beautifully with red accents is Dulux Maraschino Mocha 5 which will add warmth to your room. Alternatively, Dulux Dusted Moss 2 is a lovely calm green-grey tone, that will add a touch more colour to your space for a fresh look. I’d recommend you try tester pots of these colours so you can see how they work with your natural lighting. I can see in your ideabook that you love the wood cabin style – how about creating a feature wall with a wood panelling effect on one wall of your room to add some interest through texture and pattern? This would look great paired with soft neutral coloured walls. I hope this helps and happy decorating! Comments (7)Hi - the position of your room sounds like you will get some/very little light in the morning and afternoon, so I see why the lighting is not great! I would recommend to try Pavilion Gray - it has blue undertones, which will work will De Nimes. The other one to try is Elephant's Breath it is a little bit warmer. Note: I think adding a light blue colour may make the room look too cold especially if there isn't much light and if you are going to have furniture painted in De Nimes. Pavillion Gray: Elephant's Breath: Try out two paint samples first see if you like them and then if one is too cold or too warm, go to the next colour down on the farrow and ball chart - it the best process of elimination. The other thing you could do is layer up the lighting, you could try adding a floor lamp or a nice copper toned industrial desk lamp which offsets the De Nimes. Hope this helps!
