POLL: How do you keep your kitchen knives?

When it comes to storing your knives - do you prefer to flaunt them or keep them safely stowed away? Perhaps you've invested in a snazzy magnet rack for easy access or you prefer to keep things streamlined in your kitchen, and so, you've opted for a simple cutlery tray.

Whichever way you store your knives, we'd like to know and if you have any particular care tips, do share!

This is how I store our knives. Still amuses me as you put the knives back and do the sound effect. Doesn't really go in my "Bake off" style kitchen but who cares.

We have cut down IKEA knife holders to fit into our kitchen drawer and I have a separate drawer for 'sharps' which contains knives/scissors/peelers/graters and the knife sharpener all together. The holders keep the knives upright so they are easy to grab when needed.

Slots to the side of the work surface on a level. It's great as we love cooking and have some lovely knives. Nice and high so little people can't reach!

My kitchen is small - just under 11ft x 11ft and it was superbly designed. For the first time ever I have everything I need in an easy to reach organised space. I have a tall larder unit which is priceless and my cupboards reach back into the corners (and it's in these that I store my rarely used crockery.) This kitchen is smaller than my last but due to clever design it holds far more and I am very pleased with it (including a dishwasher, tumble dryer, washing machine.)

I'll never forget a friend's expression when, showing off my new kitchen, I opened a deep bottom drawer full of tea towels and hand towels. Her jaw dropped; she had never seen so many. I don't mean to stockpile but I wash mine so frequently, some have never been used and they aren't only the ones I keep for covering up something that is out that hasn't got a lid of some sort. It will depend on how much I do in a day - if it's one washing up and drying session, the towels might last two perhaps three days. If it's a heavy day, I'll go through several tea towels in a day and most will end up in the wash immediately afterwards.

Better watch your sink if you doing so, the bleach can seep into the bottom and cause tiny holes which it did with mine after a few months, so I always boil mine in a saucpan of a little washing powder.

I took a tip from a Security expert, and keep my large knives hidden in a secure slim knife block behind the cutlery basket in the kitchen drawer (along with the scissors and skewers!).

I keep my knives UPSIDEDOWN in a knife block so they don't lie on the blade and dull themselves.

Our day to day knives are on a wall mounted magnetic rack for convenience but, call me mean, my fancy pants Damascus steel Japanese knives live in lined box, hidden away from family "guest chefs" ;-)

We keep all of our sharp knives in their own drawer, which has a magnetic bar to keep them in place and to stop them from rubbing on each other and losing their edge. I can't bear too much clutter out on the worktop.

Besides, if a murdering maniac bursts in, I don't want to make it too easy for him. I'd like to think by the time, he's opened all the drawers to find the knives, the police will have arrived. LOL

I just keep mine in the draw at the moment as they are cheap replacements but I'm planning to get a nice set with a knife block

I have mine in a knife block but I hate knife blocks so will have to think of an alternative when the new kitchen is in. Maybe magnetic bar or a wide wall mounted block perhaps with those straw things so you can put any knife in them.
Even the knives I have designed to go in the block - don’t all fit! Pff
