Win £500 worth of stair parts - get a new staircase
Comments (7)Good morning Emanuel. Thank you for the picture! It is easier to recommend something when we can see the actual staircase. For your steps and risers, I recommend using our stair cladding parts as you can install them over your existing steps and risers (they are extremely easy to install). You can go for a walnut or white oak timber/colour. The newel post, handrails and spindles don't look too bad so it is up to you if you want to change them or not. It would look better if you changed them. You can renovate them with a stop chamfered design, or you can even go with a glass design (which seems to be the preferred solution for staircase renovation in 2016). Because we have this competition going on, I would suggest that for now you place a small order (maybe buy the cladding products) and then, if you win, you'll be able to get the other stair parts for free. Here is one of the projects where we used our stair cladding parts with our glass panels....See MoreSuggestions for installing new staircase
Comments (13)It's a shame you want to change your staircase. It looks lovely, and seems to be in keeping with the age of your house and other traditional features. The suggestions made regarding how the carpeting would work will look equally lovely on your existing staircase......just another view!!...See MoreOther than buying a bungalow what can we do with our staircase?
Comments (12)If you're committed to changing the staircase, I would definitely recommend putting in some decent practical storage. We have a fairly narrow hall and the old cupboard under the stairs was a nightmarish mess of shoes bags and other junk. As part of our house remodel / extension we had a loft conversion and therefore decided to change the whole staircase. There is a small cupboard on the left for shopping bags etc. But what has revolutionised the hall is the pull-out cupboards, one for shoes and one for coats. The bottom of the coat cupboard also has a well for hats and gloves etc. My boys just automatically put their shoes away now and I don't have coats hanging on the banister. The few long coats we have hang neatly on the coat hooks behind the front door, with room for guest coats. If you haven't committed yet to a new staircase, the final picture was just inspiration for a spruce up. Finally, the glass "banisters" are lovely, but all that goes through my head is "kids and fingerprints"!...See MoreOur new purchase
Comments (30)I think picking out the handrails and treads in a contrasting colour (and the rest in white) would look very elegant. Whilst our staircase was a dark stained, timber 70s stair case, we did this and painted the treads in Farrow and Ball's 'Railings' (floor paint) and although I say it myself, the result was great. I think the look of the picture posted above would be perfect. A very dark navy is slightly softer and more elegant than black or brown....See MoreAmerican Kitchens, Inc.
