I think ultimately it comes down to cost. If you have the available cash to do it at one time - you may save on any planning permission costs (and the time to go through two sets) and saves you looking for contractors at different times. However, if you are worried about money, working in stages is a sensible thing to do. It also depends on what the shed/office building is. If this is a prefab type building where no planning is required (like Johnsons Garden Builds for example), then doing this first can make the renovation inside less stressful as you have somewhere to go or for extra storage etc. There are lots of variables here :)

Hi Niamh, What a delightful little space! In my opinion, the colour you're leaning towards won't make it feel small, as long as your furniture isn't too big for the space and accessories are pared back it'll make it feel like a cosy nest. Another colour to consider might be a sage green. I'm a big fan of connecting the outside to the inside, especially in garden rooms and spaces that open out onto gardens. Breakfast Room Green by Farrow & Ball is a great colour (see attached pic) and it also makes a great backdrop to houseplants, which will thrive in your South-facing space. Hannah

Hi Stacy, yes thats where my comment came from. I will look back at that again to see about the planting. I wasn't keen on the horizontal pavement. What I really need is a designer to look at the whole space. I'm not sure how to best build up the raised area and I'm worried it's going to be put together quickly and I will miss a key moment to get this right!

I would consider what would be nicer to use rather than what will add value to the house. consider all the little things like, which one would give you nicer light to be sat in all day? which one would give a better work/home boundary (for example if from your kitchen you’d see into the office would you be thinking of work while eating dinner, that kind of thing!) Also which space would be missed more, the garage or the bit of garden taken up by garden room. we’ve just ordered a garden room for a home gym, we originally planned to use our garage but realised after a few months of living here that the garage was much more useful for storage and a workshop, and that a garden room would be much nicer to work out in!
