Comments (5)Hi Elainer, North facing rooms are always difficult. It sounds as if you have gone as far as you can with natural light using skylights and french doors, well played. As a designer my safe advice is always to avoid dark colours in a dark room. That said you commented that you liked dark kitchens so my initial reaction is to tell you to stick to your guns. Dark rooms, if lit properly, can be very dramatic. The magazines are full of white rooms, this is a chance for you to make a statement and create drama ! If you do this make sure you spend a lot of time and a reasonable budget on lighting design or you will end up with a dark forbidding room + no drama. Make sure "all" the worktops have light directly above, under wall unit lights etc. Balance the LED ceiling lights to a bright white, not yellow or blue cast. Where possible ensure the ceiling lights are a narrow beam, this gives pinpoint intense light without bleeding out. Most importantly invest in a scene set control to allow you to control the settings to create lighting scenes. My only word of warning on this is that if you don't invest time and effort into the lighting this room the word drama will be replaced by the word "Dull" I love doing dark rooms but they are much harder to get right.... Hope it all goes well.. Regards, Martin - www.angel-martin.com...See MoreNorth facing kitchen cabinet colour dilemma
Comments (9)I'm not doing walls until kitchen in. also waiting a while to replace our table with a slightly bigger one. I've always wanted a decent table. only 3 of us so maybe will use end of it for serving up. in the pics the island looks clear and usable. the reality is it gets covered with all sorts. Im thinking of a mobile unit as could put it against chimney breast some of time. It's a developing idea. I'm reluctant to finalise until we live with the kitchen for a while. so much to think about and I'm an over thinker!...See Morenorth facing kitchen dilemma!
Comments (11)Hi, This space really does have so much potential. Turquoise is a hard colour to work in a kitchen as it can appear very bright and loud if that is not what your looking for. Both of these images are different shades of green that would work well. I would suggest whatever shade green you decided on, you keep the rest of the room light and this compliments the green well. The neutral colours and light woodwork make it an eye-catching statement. Accessorizing in black and gold is also a beautiful touch to add, also adding a statement as soon as you walk in. Comments (12)Thank you for your photos and reply . The pinks really do look beautiful. I particularly like the colour scheme of the first one. I did think paneling may solve my issue so paneling part of the wall the same colour as the book shelf then painting above but whilst that room would look lovely, I would be at odds with the style of the rest of the house which doesn't have paneling and has a glass staircase for example. The desk is actually a dark navy but perhaps black would be a better match? I think the built in bookshelf is somewhat complicating matters as would you suggest I paint that pink too? The pinks pair beautifully with black but I wonder whether that may be too much for my North facing room particularly as the bookshelf will span the entirety of the wall? I have seen some beautiful studies all in deep dark blue but I wonder if this would be too dark? I have a TV room which I embraced the dark in a deep slate blue which I love but, as it's a TV room it works being dark. I'm not sure whether a home office would work as well. As you can see I'm getting myself in a right jumble! I have recently done my North facing bathroom and that took forever to get right (down pipe units with farrow and ball dive grey) so I'm trying to avoid painting and repainting this time!...See Moremayfly182
