I have v shaped garden and shed on the corner .I would like to give life to it.

I've just cobbled together a quick plan for you and then on re-reading OnePlan's suggestion above I realise its the same thing so apologies for that. Wasnt trying to copy. If you have more accurate dimensions I'll happily put together something a bit more accurate. With this plan you lose a bit of space from the front room and the bedroom but you turn the flat into a 2 bed, great for when you come to resell. To get light into the bedroom you could have a frosted glass panel in place of the existing window and as long as there are rooflights above the kitchen then the bedroom will get some light but its not going to be a great sunny room.

We had a similar project and gutted the house. Rewire replaster all walls and ceilings. We restored the original parquet flooring and then new carpets everywhere else. Knocked through between kitchen and dining room, new garage roof. New doors and work surface but kept the original kitchen units. Kept the bathroom but put in a new floor. Did this for about £10k. Now 18 months later we're looking at extending the kitchen diner into a big open plan room going out the back as you have suggested but also out to the side. Our neighbours have done similar and we think we can get it done for about 30-40k not including the kitchen. The side extension means a fair bit of structural steel so if you don't do this then it saves a fair bit - our other neighbours have done this. We want an open but defined space so we're looking at keeping a pillar (also cheaper) then having an L shaped kitchen diner around a more relaxed sitting and entertaining area. The idea being that for dinner parties you mill around and have drinks in here before going to eat. Also can have friends round for coffee etc while the front living room remains the primary TV watching area. We'd keep a small boot room off the back for the dog, a pantry in the middle and a toilet at the front. See below for some pictures that illustrate our plans. These are mine and just awaiting our architects plans. In summary I'd get it up to a basic standard until you've got a bit more then go big, although as you say with your cheap labour you might get what you want for the money!

Hi there Lizzie, I agree with Steph! I think that curvy lines and pushing the planting space more to the centre of the garden would not only emulate more the cottage style that you like but could potentially make your very narrow garden look wider than it is! Also, if you really like plants and flowers I would definitely go for deeper beds than 50cm. This might well mean ditching the lawn (which you said you wouldnt mind anyway), but you would still have plenty of greenery to see from your kitchen from an interesting planting scheme (could have plants that flower at different times of the year, rather than just the green lawn throughout the year for example). Regarding changing your decking for paving, would you keep it the height that it currently is or are you thinking about leveling the new patio with the rest of the garden (decking looked raised on the picture but maybe i got the wrong impression)? Also, something else to consider is the aspect of your garden (and where the shady and sunny areas are) so that you can determine where you would like to sit, planting sheme etc. If you would like more help, I provide a range of online based garden design services (usually cheaper than in person services) from budget friendly sketches and planting plans only to full on garden plans and 3D visuals. Thanks everyone for your input and advice, it really has been much appreciated. As some have suggested, I think our next steps are to collate a "vision board" (if you like) of what we'd like to get the ball rolling. We've not had much luck with finding inspiration here, as most gardens, even with a compact filter seem to be significantly larger than our space or heavily floral focused, which don't get me wrong can look beautiful but is not quite what we're looking for. Pinterest (see, board) and Instagram seem to have a varied selection of both features and completed gardens (although most are much larger spaces). Once we have an idea of what we think we might like, we'll then reach out to some of the garden designer professionals (thanks to those who shared their details) to help reaffirm our plans. We're more than happy to roll up our sleeves and get with the graft and heavy lifting that might be involved, even if to cut down on cost, but we would be more than likely to get professionals in to ensure a quality execution/finish. We'll have have shop around a view various portfolios to gauge what sort of prices we should be expecting to pay for the various services (e.g. Design, Landscaping etc...) but we're in a much better place to start. Finger crossed, we'll be able to update you all with progress soon.
