Champagne colour loo and basin in small bathroom - what to do?

We have a small, windowless bathroom next to our guest room which is a not very lovely "champagne" colour. The floor is green lino, and the walls are magnolia! We really do not have the funds to rip out the suite and replace with a nice new white one, so is there a colour I could paint the walls to make the room lovely? I was wondering about that bookshelf effect wallpaper , or painting in Farrow and Ball downpipe? Or shall I just not bother doing anything until I can afford a new white suite? Has anyone else got a groovy bathroom with a champagne colour suite?

7 years agoI have a similar problem with an old grey bathroom suite (although it's a step up from avocado!).
I would agree with the post above - natural colours are the way to go with a champagne suite, and first things first - floor! If you're on a budget maybe look at a stone effect Lino floor. This will compliment the suite nicely and then allow you to play with wall colours.

Comments (25)I wouldn't change much regarding the layout/placement of white goods either. But it'd be possible to get some extra. For example, an L- or P-shaped shower bath would get a nicer shower space. You'd end up with the wider part by the window though so may then also consider opaque glazing or a screen there. A concealed cistern in the back wall would bring that forward by around 10cm. If you don't want to loose all that space, a boxed-in cistern and shelves above may give you a little storage back. On the washing machine: you triggered my inner geek :-) This may be possible. You need to research a few things for this: A) a slim depth washing machine (usually 425mm) B) availability of a height reduction kit for it (if these are avail gets height down from 850mm to 800mm) C) use an extra-flat bottle trap for the basin D) partly embed that into a thin washtable (to make the surface then a total of ~100mm above the machine) If all these go together it should just be possible to fit washtable, drains, basin trap and the machine underneath into a box about 910x600x500mm (HxWxD) which is kitchen unit height. The countertop sink would sit above that. Maybe a little bit of extra space could be gained still if you'd construct a basin from a flat shower tray with an integrated trap (a Wedi fundo plano is 60mm high) but I'm not sure how to put the washing machine drain on then. I bought a new sink and vanity from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-t%C3%A4lleviken-wash-basin-cabinet-white-spr-39891444/ However, it's occurred to me since that it'll take up too much of the room/floorspace, especially as the sink faces you as you walk in. I've been looking at other designs, and the wall-hung sink with a nicer-looking chrome waste could be a much better option. Added to this, if I'm tiling the floor, I'll probably need to buy a new loo, and IKEA doesn't do matching loos. Therefore...where can I buy a basic loo/basin package? What's the difference between a 'toilet and basin' and a 'cloakroom suite'? Should I go for one or two tap holes? Am I wasting my money? Comments (60)If space is your priority, perhaps the second toilet would be better? What brand is it, btw? I will eventually be redoing a bathroom (had planned to do it this year, but gas price rises have made me decide to install a wood burner instead). 7 years agoI also think a windowless bathroom is crying out for a beautiful window-style mirror to give the illusion of space. Personal taste dependent! :)

7 years agoHi Paula, why don't we try and base the design from the items that you don't like: green floor and magnolia basin and toilet.
You could paint the walls in two colours, splitting them in an horizontal way (see inspiration picture attached). The bottom part could be a similar green to the floor and the top part a magnolia like the sanitary ware. You can also paint the radiator in the green colour like the walls. I would stop the green like 15/20 cm above the top of your sink to create a kind of splash back effect. You can then add pictures on the walls to make it more cosy. Ceiling painted in the magnolia colour and skirting too. This is the cheapest solution I could think of... Good luck!
