As long as your current finish/paintwork is well stuck to the kitchen materials a gentle sand down will give it enough key to take on new paint. 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat will be ideal. www.willowtreeinteriors.com sell Mylands paint which we have one of the most durable paints for kitchens and furniture. apply with a brush and sponge roller for best results. I think your color intensity thoughts are fine...... but for me I find it all a little 50 shades and would rather see a combination of Stiffkey Blue, Lamp Room Grey and Wevet. Or alternatively Tanners Brown, Oxford stone and dimity/ All White. Or Pitch Black, Pidgeon/cromarty and James White.

Hi I was looking some help and guidance as my head is melted with all the decisions that come with building a house. I'm trying to create a timesless modern kitchen and I've decided to go ammonite cabinets and on my island I have a warm white grey quartz with a wooden breakfast bar. I dont know what colour to put on my walls. I have tried strong white farrow and ball which I like, cornforth white and purbeck stone which I think might be too dark. I have attached a few photos. The last one is the computer generated image. I have light colour tile on my floors too. I have tried railings on the wall that is featuring the ovens. (the ovens will also be cased in the same wood as on the island) but it seems too black. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tara x

I think it's a great kitchen but needs accessorising. Sorry I can't photoshop but added an aged copper splashback to create a focal point (also wasn't sure if the brick was sealed). A vintage terracotta bowl on the island would reference the brick. The brick is lovely but it is dark, I would suggest light accessories, like adding a marble paddle board where you've got the chopping board and maybe a pestle and mortar, a pot for your pan brush etc or a nice hand wash. Where the pillar is you could also add a hook for a teatowel. I added a runner (not in the right place!) to tie into the sofa but they're not for everyone in a kitchen. You could also add sheepskin pads for the stools for more texture, assuming they don't slip off! What's opposite the main run, just wondering if a large mirror would bounce a bit more light on the brick? Stepped islands aren't really to my taste but if you were to change it I'd go for a waterfall top to give it a bit more presence (or just change the legs).
