Kitchen help - what can we do to make it look better?
Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? I haven't checked your location but this is something we can help with...See MoreHow can we give this pantry a make over
Comments (7)It has all the woodwork around it for a door, but the door is missing, which doesn't help with the odd look. It's ok to turn it into a shelf only area, but you really need to remove the woodwork, which is making it look like a cupboard missing a door. Alternatively, if you don't want the hassle of roughing up the plaster & having to repair it when you remove the architrave, then put a door back on it. Traditionally Pantry's are a little larger and are for storing tins and jars of food. Are you going to use it for that? Do you want that on show? You could have shelves with baskets / boxes to keep everything hidden and tidy. Another idea would be to take a portion of the left hand wall down, open up the space as per picture 3 below and make it a larger open Pantry / Shelf design. Decision is yours alone x...See MoreWhy do we love white kitchens?

Comments (23)hi Neverforever, I think you really need to repair the entire side of the house- looking at the photos you provided, the entire side of the house look as though you have a number of spalled bricks, which have suffered from frost damage. whatever you decide as a finish , you should address these in the final decision to protect your home. I think that the amount of space lost at the side cladding the house in timber , would not lose a lot of space in the driveway. you have pipes at the side protruding at low level. Can you advise on the width of the space between the two houses. you own half of this width and have a right of way over the neighbouring house for driving your car, so this shouldn't really cause issues with the neighbour. A timber clad would provide a modern update to the look of the porch, whilst the render and paint would be a simpler update. you might want to look at external insulation and a render finish to the entire house. This is something the government is looking to push for improving the energy use of the housing stock in the uk. best Rowland...See Moreeve
