Custom Pendant Lights - would this be of interest?

Hi All,

We
are the UK agent of a Pendant factory that supplies Pendants to retailers
worldwide.

Looking
at Houzz and the amazing projects with Pendants over kitchen islands etc we
were thinking about offering a custom Pendant service direct from the
factory.

This service will allow you to choose:

Ceiling Rose – type and finish
Cord – type, colour, length
Shade – type, finish, size
Lamp Holders – some shades have lamp holder options

There are 1000s of combinations.

The items will be made in the factory as per your
specifications and delivered to you.

The price should be more cost effective than buying standard
products directly from retailers.

Do you think this service will be of interest? Will you be
willing to wait 3-4 weeks for your custom pendants?

Simply yes! I've just completed a kitchen renovation and single storey extension and sourced lights via Esty and other global websites as I didn't want run of the mill feature lighting. Good luck with your venture.

Dear DAZZ-LED,

I think this service would be tremendously popular and of interest to Interior Designers and Decorators, as we would be able to guide clients on the Pendant specifications/styles and order custom made lights. The setback compared to purchasing directly from a showroom is the ability to view the final product before purchase, and, in the unlikely event it is not suitable, to be able to return it. Something to consider is if you are willing to provide samples, and what your return policy would be.

Clerkenwell Design Week is just around the corner; will you be participating/advertising?

We removed 6 recessed spots from our breakfast room ceiling and replaced them with one central pendant light and it was the best thing ever! The lighting was always harsh even with trying all sorts of different bulbs and a dimmer but now it's transformed. We put off doing it for years as we thought it would be a major job and require re-plastering the ceiling but it was all done in less than 2 days. Our electrician did the wiring changes which didn't take him long and then the decorator patched the holes left by the recessed spots and used filler to blend them in. A coat of paint to the entire ceiling and you cannot see at all where the old lights were.

We are the UK agent for a Pendant manufacturer who supply to large retailers across Europe. We see on this website a number of customers asking for where people got Pendants from. We are contemplating setting up a custom pendant business where there will be a large range of Pendants which can be customised - ceiling rose finish and type; cord finish, colour, type and length; lamp holder finish and type; shade type and finish etc. Would this service be of interest and what is the maximum time would you be able to wait for the customised Pendants? Note: price of each Pendant will be less than a standard UK retailer but you will have a Pendant customised to your requirements

Hi There, If you are in the UK you may be interested in a service that we offer, you could have these lights made in any of F&B colours. We will be arranging the new business over the next couple of months. We will probably publish a simple website from where a brochure can be downloaded. Customers can choose which components they want in their Pendant, these can then be manufactured at the factory. Once made - a photo can be taken at the factory and sent to the customer for final approval before the item is sent to the customer.

I'm afraid for custom made products, we won't be able to take them back unless faulty.

From a cost perspective for custom Pendants, we are still working this out, but will be in the range of £100-£300+VAT depending on design, materials and finish. Shades will be in range of materials from Glass, Metal, Wood, Concerete, Plastic etc.

If you are a designer and have a completely new shape and design that you want to have manufactured to sell in some volume (100+ pieces) - that is also possible. The factory does this for lighting designers in Europe. There will be an initial cost to design and re-tool to produce the design, but this will be your exclusive design. Obviously, your Pendants will be at wholesale rates.

We will also provide LED lamps for the Pendants - standard LEDs lamps and also the atmospheric LED filament lamps.

There is a lot to do to establish this business - but thanks for taking the time to comment and help us understand the market and any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hello DAZZ-LED Ltd,

Offering your clients a bespoke option will gr8ly enhance your range. So I would say this is a very sound plan going forward and lots of companies are offering this. Being able to offer a client something someone else doesn't have exactly is quite appealing personally.

Lighting for me should be more than just illuminating space.. Where possible it can also be an instillation in it's own right and form a focal point.. There's a strong move towards creating your own. Also consider the idea and possibility of component pieces that can be assembled to create a myriad of styles within a given range. So you could buy a "Complete Style" and change it later to something else.. So rather than offer chord,rose etc.. Design as I mentioned a range of lighting that can be re arranged, re assembled or re designed to create many finished options.. That way your clients could very definitely be dazzled! I would be. I like the idea of environments evolving and developing, and like the modular sofa that can be re assembled or split in parts.. why not with lighting.. An idea perhaps..

Yes definitely. I'm struggling to find what I want in terms of outdoor lighting at the moment and so do consider making outdoor lighting too.

Hello DAZZ-LED. I think this is a great idea however I would urge you to really consider the subject of returns. When the main focus of the idea is based on customisation then a good returns policy makes a massive difference. This has been proven in the world of shoes. Shoes of Prey offered custom shoes and a 365 day no quibbles return policy - the business rocketed. A similar company, Mood by Me was orginally saying the same as you, no returns unless faulty. They are now offering a 30 day return policy. The additional sales gained more than outweigh the issues - and if you sell through designers they will become repeat buyers if they know you are not creating hassle for them.
