How should I accessorise my fireplace?
Comments (3)Hi Helen, You’ve done a great job with the renovation - it looks really good! I suggest adding a long shelf to your newly painted fireplace, making a feature of the wall and creating the illusion of a modern mantel. To dress the shelf, add a simple mirror such as this beautiful Heart of House Mirror with golden detailing. Try hanging the mirror so it appears to rest on the shelf to create a stylish, relaxed feel within your living room. http://bit.ly/2dglCsj Pair this with clustered accessories that carry through the golden details of the mirror, and pops of colour to compliment your walls and furnishings. Accessories such as the below would look great in your room: http://bit.ly/2d3BDfG http://bit.ly/2dfx7Mg http://bit.ly/2dgni56 Happy decorating and please let me know how you get on! Comments (1)It is really ugly. if you really don't intend to use it, I suggest to paint it an off white colour so it blends in as much as possible. When you get a few bob, replace it altogether....See MoreHow should I finish my fireplace?
Comments (8)Thanks everyone :) Very interesting feedback!! Certainly something to think about! I have toyed with the idea of painting the fireplace the same as the wall colour but have always like how the different colour makes it stand out and also scared that it will be tricky to turn back to white again if I don't like it! Also it is a gloomy north facing room looking into a tall oak tree lined garden! So worried it could be even darker on a day like today! A mantel beam like you suggest could work and we can set it slightly into the opening as it is taller than it needs to be (but will have to check the fire regs etc) and then we can leave the mirror where it is. I have been asking the electrician about installing a centre chandelier as I often find the room quite gloomy and then I would add a footstall matching the sofas in the centre of the room which could also be used as a sort of coffee table…but do you think that I don't need to add a centre light?...See MoreWhat colour should I paint my sideboard?
Comments (2)Hi Rachel, I would be tempted to paint it a softer grey like farrow & ball Ammonite or even Farrow & ball Cornforth. With a softer grey you will find the sideboard will not feel as strong in the room, allowing you for the navy chairs & sofa's to take center stage in the room....See Moremsclelluk
