Please help me improve our ensuite bathroom...
Comments (17)Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to comment. It's really tricky taking good photos as the space is so tight, but I will attach another photo and sketch to give a better idea of the space. Daisy- the photo was stretched, I didn't realise my portrait photo would be converted to landscape. So the sink is just set into a 50cm wide unit. I think the idea of moving the sink to the current bidet position is a good one, although as you'll see from the sketch there's very little wall on the left of the window so not much space for a mirror in front of the sink. Carolina- I love that photo! The bit I can't quite get is how the shower door would work if the shower head remained on the right (all the shower controls/electrics are on the other side of the wall, taking up space in a wardrobe!!) and the sink was on the left. whizzywig- the door opens out (my sketch should show it now) and the photo was taken from outside the door. I think the distance you asked for is 74cm. And yes, we queried the plumbing for a wc when we bought the house, but unfortunately it's not there - they said they didn't like the idea of a loo near their bed!!!...See MoreHow can we improve the look of our new shed / summer house / bbq area
Comments (21)If you feeling brave, dark stains such as black look stunning and help the building to visually recede against the backdrop of vegetation. It's the tradition finish for agriculture buildings and has a very contemporary look. I'd contrast it with a pale grey deck or beige gravel or stone if you want something warmer. The building needs grounding in its setting, ie. connect it with a path and some planting to prevent it looking like it's been dropped from space! It's going to be a great facility to have in the garden....See MoreSuggestions to improve our house layout
Comments (7)Hi! Sounds like a fun project. I love a good farmhouse. Man about the house has given you some excellent suggestions for adding a shower in. It definitely seems to be just about moving the door into the bathroom and reconfiguring that space to be able to fit a shower in there as well. For the ground floor I'm wondering if moving the entrance to the side might be possible - just in front of the stairs and creating a hall that takes a slice off the back of the living room and joins up with your existing hall - so you basically get a bigger hall that includes the stair and the main entrance. That could then fit some bootroom type space in and coat hanging so it becomes a really useful space. Then I'm thinking you could make the porch element much wider, basically a single storey extension to the front, so that your living room pushes forward into the front garden. You will be able to get a lot more light in to the living room and will be able to just have the one door in from the hall so it becomes a much more usable living room. This would need planning permission and extensions to the front are more difficult to get approval, but this seems like a logical approach to improving the space for you. I have a free checklist with support emails to help with getting your project off to a good start and making the right decisions for you. You can get a copy from my website: www.i-architect.co.uk I hope this has been helpful, Jane :)...See MoreHow can we improve our layout?
Comments (6)Hi. Romove as mutch " clutter" from under the stairs as practical, leaving it open with perhaps new windows for more light. I' d move the sitting room door nearer to the front door, just so there is more scope for dark and moody colours away from the window. You have to have a Robert bench in the kitchen corner ( now for dining, curled up cats and storage drawers under). The island should not impede 'flow' so think curves, Ying/ Yang (hob and sink at oposide ends). Full wall of storage against sitting room wall. Your eye will be drawn out so the right hand garden wall needs vertical planting. Upstairs, put a generous shower to the right of the door, maybe your bath could be replaced with a hot-tub outside ?...See MoreStyle by Gillian - Design/Renovate
