Comments (7)The floral pattern looks to have a vintage almost retro vibe about it. With a light and bright colour scheme I might look for something simple like a black and white print as mentioned or even a pencil drawing. Or how about some brass wall art or mirror? The yellow tones of brass would echo the yellow elsewhere in the room (one in pic is from Rockett st George). Or how about some ducks 🦆? Kind of thinking of the vintage flying ducks but came across a trio of budgies which I thought were really fun and I love the cute little duckling print☺️. Of course art is subjective and there Is a huge amount of choice so choose something that you love. Comments (23)hi Neverforever, I think you really need to repair the entire side of the house- looking at the photos you provided, the entire side of the house look as though you have a number of spalled bricks,which have suffered from frost damage. whatever you decide as a finish , you should address these in the final decision to protect your home. I think that the amount of space lost at the side cladding the house in timber , would not lose a lot of space in the driveway. you have pipes at the side protruding at low level. Can you advise on the width of the space between the two houses. you own half of this width and have a right of way over the neighbouring house for driving your car, so this shouldn't really cause issues with the neighbour. A timber clad would provide a modern update to the look of the porch, whilst the render and paint would be a simpler update. you might want to look at external insulation and a render finish to the entire house. 7 years agoI disagree that a closed porch will spoil the house. If you are picky enough to get a match for the brick of the house then it will look lovely with your front door in it. I've seen many done badly with the wrong brick and many done well with the right brick. Of course you are lucky in that at the top of the house is cream coloured render, so you could if you wish mirror that effect if you don't want brick. The whole point of your porch is so that you have somewhere for your coats, so there's no point in an open design. Here's one we did locally, where there are lot of little two up two downs that need porches or you step straight into the lounge. We were picky with the bricks, copied the design over the windows and we think it turned out very well. The house is one of our rentals, therefore, we chose not to bother changing the front door for cost reasons, however, if we were selling or living there, then it would be a different matter, and we'd go for a lovely wooden door like yours.
