what type of curtains or blinds for this open plan living area?

Hello there
Hope you are well!
I'm lucky enough to have tonnes of light by London standards in my newly refurbished apartment.
I personally love the light and privacy is less of an issue because I'm a first floor flat in a very high ceiling large house.
However I guess I need some kind of curtains or blinds at least for insulation for winter. Particularly since the main big sash windows are single glazed until I can save up to replace them!
So 2 qns:
- Big sash windows :curtains or blinds? Space is very small!! Please note I have radiators underneath.
What should I buy and where from?
- kitchen window (opposite big sash windows)
Do I even need anything here? Its double glazed... But I don't know if it's a requirement to have it covered? And my preference would be not close blinds almost always.
Please excuse the mess!!

I tried mforr to find one o those room colouring things for a shop here in the uk and whilt you can do it with dulux paint brand, it didnt seem to like my iPad so need to get onto it on my laptop! Having slept on it I'm thinking I like the idea of doing the kitchen only in colour, and then having highlights of the colour in the LR with cushions perhaps. We considered curtains too but I'm not sure if it would crowd the LR. We are sure that the coffee table is too big also, but I love it (it has a glass top and we can present things in the drawer below). We also have no dining table so this is our only space for setting out food! I'm still liking the green, but the yellow goes well too. We have a tea/coffee jars on our kitchen work top (might be just visible in the pictures) which are green yellow and grey, so if I bring these along to the DIY shop they could colour match those for me. Comments (13)I agree with many of the suggestions above, especially that there's too much furniture in the living room. You're going to hate me for saying this but I think there's too much clutter and busyness overall for such a small space. I'd radically reduce the number of pictures and knick-knacks in both rooms – especially the living room – and move the ones you keep to less prominent places. I'd also take the coat rack and cookery bookshelves out completely, and replace the busy parquet flooring with either not-busy plank laminate or a simple-patterned or solid rug. Comments (17)I love the idea of the duck egg blue and yellow adding a pop of colour to the white. I'd play it up a bit more and go for deep and bold jewel tones of teal, sapphire, plum and burgundy, mixed with a few of the more delicate neutral pillows you have. I think little pops of gold would do nicely with the jewel tones and match the yellow you already have. I'd definitely continue the idea of the sheepskin throw and maybe introduce a similar rug to bring some warmth and texture to the floor -perhaps a warmer beige. Comments (73)I've had a look at activewindowfilms.co.uk sounds like there may be a small amount of light reduction, at the price it's worth a trial though. Yes, people stare straight in here! It's a bit uncomfortable when you feel like you have eye contact with a stranger when you're eating your dinner! :-) I guess it's human nature though... I'm not sure I can handle bolder with the splashback, mostly because I'm keen to keep it as neutral as possible, so that other items can be changed as fashion changes or if I sell up at some point. I had considered a mirror splash back.. I wasn't going to tile, just glass upstands below the sockets. 14:27 For privacy I think the first option would work if it really is invisible as it appears. The watery colour of the splashback works with the blinds and art. I wonder whether to go a bit bolder though? Are you tiling at all? Where did you get find the invisble film? I may try that as a temporary solution until we can afford shutters or curtains. People literally stop and gawp at our dining room!...See More

7 years agoI would definitely not use curtains, they will shrink the room! If you want to add a soft touch and texture you could use Roman Blinds p, which fold so you can keep them up like a pelmet.
I would either use white linen, or something neutral like this one called Postcard Natural from Web Blinds.

For the kitchen I would use a faux wood, wide slotted blind, which is moisture resistant, can be pulled right up or be tilted to provide just the right amount of privacy or shade. When open it is quite unobtrusive, see this sample

Last but not least, get a good company to draft seal company your sash Windows, makes a huge difference and preserves energy. Can highly recommend Ventrolla.

7 years agoI would say for the kitchen to have a roman blind just for show, however there would be the option there to pull down if you wish. You can choose your own fabric and have one made, its a fairly small window so should be reasonable. Unless of course you find one that you like pre made. For the sass windows I would go for White shutters, the ones that you can open to allow easy access for the opening of your windows.
