Kitchen LED Lighting: Which colour creates the best ambience?

LED lighting carefully concealed beneath work surfaces or flyover shelving can add a touch of class to any kitchen. The colour of the light can create a totally different look and feel within your kitchen space, changing the ambience. Which colour do you prefer?

Cool, calm and naturally beautiful blue

Warm, vibrant and luscious yellow

Totally depends on the colour scheme and the intended use of the kitchen. Both options above match their colour scheme. If you're looking to entertain often in the kitchen the maybe brighter colours?

If you're looking for something more homely and snug then warmer colours and lighting. But of course this is only our opinion :)

Pumice and Duck Egg Blues are timeless. Personally I love some of the darker grey-blue tones which are so popular at the moment and, I'm sure, will stand the test of time. Remember colour is a curious and complex thing. A swatch will never really do it justice, and one colour will look very different depending on how matte/glossy it is. The same paint will also look very different depending on the surface it is painted on! LED is very much the present and will be the only option in the future. Why install a outdated technology like halogen or incandescent lighting? LED has many advantages with different colour temperatures, very good colour rendering, variable angles of light and of course low running and maintenance costs. Its very much down to choosing the correct LED lighting for your project.

Hi We provide LED lamps in 2700K (very warm - yellow) , 3000K (warm white - yellow), 4000K (cool white - white will a hint of yellow), 5000K (soft daylight - very white), 6000K (daylight - more harsh white with hint of blue). Between different makes of LEDs - there will be variations too. What we have seen is that this is very much on personal preference and also how the light interacts with the colour of the units in your room. You should try some options if possible and see what you prefer. If you want to warm your room up go for warm white. If you want to have a sharper look go for cool whiite 4000K (we are seeing this is getting more popular), if you want seriously white then go for daylight (5-6000K). One thing we recommend against is using all in one LED fixture like the H2, because the LED market is moving fast, In 4 years time, if one fixture fails and this unit is not made anymore, it may be replaced with a non-matching fixture. With a LED GU10, you can just change the bulb without having to replace the fixture. Out Professional 7W DGP4 lamp has interchangeable lens (60 degree standard and 38 degrees optional) and really bright. Additionally, you should also check the under cabinet lighting. We have found that our clients are favouring using 2 colours on their cabinetry. Usually a neutral, white, cream or muted light grey then use a contrasting colour on key pieces.

Agreed that the intended use of the kitchen makes a big difference on the colours chosen. Nothing says a family kitchen like warm hues where as blue shades tend to give more of an entertainment feel perfect for entertaining.

Personally I believe the best type of kitchen lighting is in between warm and ambient and cool and crisp. This is due to the usage of a kitchen throughout the day. It's nice to have a cool white light in the morning and a warmer light in the evening. There is also a tunable white LED which can be mixed to create the desired colour of white light.

Warm is a much better option to create inviting and relaxing ambiance, i consider warm white to be 2700k but more often than not, when it comes to LED Strip lighting, our customers specify our 2500k and 97 CRI version. CRI is a critical aspect of lighting that often goes unmentioned - CRI stands for Colour Rendering Index and it's a score out of 100 that defines how well a light source will bring out the true colours of the objects it illuminates. So if you want your red sofa, green apple or yellow painting to look as vibrant and colourful as it should, you want CRI as close to 100 as you can get. We specialise in high CRI LED Lighting !
