How can we make our bedroom cozier??
Comments (31)You can move the bed 50 cms off the wall and create a shelving but do NOT fill it with objects. Keep it symmetrical when decorating. Alternatively, you can make it open towards the window to store your linen or other items instead of leaving it exclusively as a shelving. Secondly, to make it cozier, I would re paint the walls in a warm color such as Burgundy and fit curtains in burgundy and gold colors in front of the window. The bottom wallpaper can be replaced with likewise design in silver/grey or black/gold (prominent color being the first one) Bed cover and pillows to blend with the wall and wallpaper colors you choose. That will make it cozier to start with. You will then need adequate light to compensate the dark colors. Ideally smaller lights spread evenly over the ceiling or square lights and two neat lamps on either side of the shelving over the bed. (Can also be fitted onto the wall - Set them out evenly) A nice rug just in front of your bed will give you more of a cozy ambient and give you more warmth to the room. The colors themselves will match your bed, then you can do without the basket in front of the bed. Last, set your room evenly. If you wish to use the painting you already have, move it by the bed and put up another one on the opposite wall and fit a mirror instead of the where you currently have your painting. Move the cupboard opposite the painting, opposite to where you will have your mirror and you have a perfectly symmetrical and cozy room.... I hope my ideas are of help to you. Comments (9)Hi Melanie. I would keep it painted white and go for the copper theme. I think it's a good idea to swap to blinds. I think it's important for a small room to let in as much light as possible so may consider a roller blind. If not, have a look at these. http://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/roman-blinds/16335/ankara-dusty-rose.html I would add pale grey and blush pink to the scheme hence the blinds! What's opposite the window? Could you add a large copper mirror for more light and to give it a spacious feel? You could consider some good faux flowers for the window sill. For the desk a copper lamp and perhaps just a couple of accessories so as not to clutter. Can the shelf above the bed be removed? You could add some large cushions to act as a headboard. You could also add some art or stencils behind the bed to draw the eye up which should hopefully make the room feel a little larger. What's the ceiling height? Is there a pendant light as you add some interest here. Could you have a go at re-covering the futon? I seriously cannot sew but "re-covered" my garden sofa cushions which look fine from the front!...See MoreHow to give this bedroom the big 3: character, comfort and cosiness.
Comments (12)Thanks for responding to soon, all! To respond to each in turn: Daisy - I definitely agree regarding the chair - just need someone to take the thing off me. The headboard is an issue as it holds the bed together so not sure how smooth replacing it could be. It seems all agree regarding the pictures so down they will come. Leaning towards the curtains, too. Thank you! Jen - The feature wall and knitted throw is a common theme so something I'll look to invest in! Just a case of what way to go with the feature wall and how to have the other walls tied in to it. Hmmm Minnie - as always, thank you. I actually looked at Hague blue but thought it was just too dark, although I'm torn again after seeing that picture. I might get some samples, as I like the contrast and it goes with a few ideas I saw. I had been thinking about a colour more like the one at the top of this post (which I can't move for whatever reason), which isn't too far from Hague blue (not sure of the exact colour right now but recall seeing it). I assume you'd move the bed closer to the window to allow more space with the drawers being by the door. The table by the bed wasn't the best as it's so high and the bed is rather low - to be honest I'll likely move the console table out the room at some point; not decided yet. I need to get a pendant light but figured I'd get it once doing the bigger things - the current light shade is looking very sorry for itself. A mirror does need inserting (something my girlfriend reminds me of weekly) - would you say a full-length onejust to the right of the wardrobe entrance? Your colour scheme - with the greys and mustards - sounds good, too!...See MoreHow to make bedroom feel complete
Comments (17)This is a beautiful room, as is the bed. Have you thought about repositioning the bed to the right wall so that when you sit in bed, you face the windows? Might be more relaxing. Also the whole arrangement is "floating" because the room is quite large and there are no zones. A rug is definitely needed to anchor the bed and bedside tables. The pendant lights are quite large for what looks like a relatively low ceiling. We also have a bedroom under eaves and have completely minimalist lights (they're like white spotlights and blend with the white ceiling); we even wanted recessed lights but it couldn't be installed in the ceiling so that was the next best thing. Finally, perhaps you can add some cushions in accent colours e.g. orange or yellow contrast well with blue and grey, and they feel warm as well, hence would warm up the relatively cool scheme (3 should be enough, doesn't have to be loads, to keep your other half happy!). Good luck!...See MoreLucy
