It's hard to tell on pictures but if the fabric is not the same I suggest you go for a bigger contrast, so either a darker grey for the chair or a brand new accent colour. All colours work well with grey, including red and yellow.
You could tie the two by having cushions on the sofa of the same colour as the chair.

In terms of style the sofa is more modern than the classic shape of the chair, but I think that should work well if it's the style of your place

Would get the dark grey woven fabric and then spare covers in the lighter. They do a yellow winged back but am just not brave enough so would use cushions and throws. What about this?

I think tan leather would look good with the mango furniture. I'm not sure that mid century would complement your furniture, Chesterfields are fashionable and fine for modern homes so you could go down that route. Although I think something like this would look great: http://www.made.com/canape-3-seater-sofa-saddle-tan-premium-leather. Decor wise with tan leather cooler colours work best - blues, greens and greys. I love olive green with it - you could bring in as an accent wall if light is an issue and copper accessories would look great with the olive - Next has lots of lovely copper stuff in at the moment.

Hi Trine! We have a dark grey sofa ( Fancy Nancy- sofa workshop) which is very neutral. The sofa you like would suit minimalist style, but it has a definite mid century look. You could tame it down with knitted dark grey cushions or accessorise it with geometric patterns cushions, maybe black and white.

Hi, I'd suggest keeping the colour scheme to light greys and blues since the room is small. A white wall would over power the room, giving it a cold and un homely feel. I think Cornforth White by Farrow and Ball (Image 1) would be perfect. It's not too harsh and it's not too 'clinical' shall we say, it's a washed out grey. I also think A8630D by Crown Paints Trade would do perfectly (image 2). Note: Both images show the paint colours in natural lighting as appose to fluorescent. I don't know how small the room is but I'd suggest, as so to balance the colour in the room, you place a piece of blue-grey art work on the wall, this will add depth. Hi, yes you would be looking at 2 small sofas if you had them facing each other. So the options you could have:- 1) Corner sofa with the L section being on the door side (presuming you want to keep your TV where it is) and the longest part away from the wall so there is a space to walk behind it. 2) keep the long sofa where it is and bring the smaller one around so it faces away from the windows (entrance door behind it). This will only work if there is space to leave a gap to walk through. 3) leave the sofa where it is (or bring it forward depending on how much width you have in the room? And put 2 x single chairs opposit each other in the same place it was suggested to have 2 x sofas. So it would be a C shape.

Love the sofa not so keen on the chair. I much prefer the one with the wooden frame, yes using the same cushions on both the chair and sofa will tie them together, I rather like the contrast in greys as long as you use a lighter colour/pattern on the cushions maybe a cream and duck egg.

So in terms of styling, mixing contemporary with something based on a more traditional design really works, it's one way to add personality and interest to a scheme. However I personally don't really like the winged back chair in the image as it's proportions are out...the arms and 'wings' are way too skinny. Have a look at made.com, they have a couple of designs which have buttoned detailing in a range of bright cheery colours.

I think a different coloured chair may work better personally. Maybe something in teal, mustard or grass green although you have a choice! Are you wanting a scandi style?

I would avoid the greys and the red. The duck egg I think would work better with the light grey sofa and although I like the inky blue maybe it's just too dark against the dak grey? Yellow/mustard works well with purple for a splash of yellow in cushions

I think it could look very nice. Perhaps bring in a little more of the copper, the pink and some wood to warm it and a either white or a hint of grey wall paint with some warmth to it. What type of floor do you have?

Have valspar notre Dame walls and antique oak floor probably same colour as floor under chair. Do you think chair will be good with the first sofa I posted. This is the one I have

Yes I'd go for the dark grey so there's more contrast with the chair and walls. Just check the seat height of both. It can sometimes look a little odd if there's a big difference (unless that's just me!).

I forgot to say before you buy it might be an idea to paint a piece of paper and take it to ikea with you. Sometimes mixing different undertones of grey does not work. They look as if they will work but an iPad isn't the most accurate for colour!

Hello Frango1,

The wingback from IKEA is a nice one actually and gr8 for its price .. I have other favourites but not for this price range.. I like the grey and this colour is my preferred within the range.. It can look very stylish teamed with fabulous cushion or two and so I would say yes to this.. With regards to the sofa, have you looked at Loaf?

They do some very nice options and think you could benefit from having a look before you decide sofa wise.. With a sofa, it's a good idea to find the best you can afford, simply because it's a bigger piece.

Also consider some lovely throws for arms of sofa. It would be rather nice to perhaps find a colour for the sofa that is a shade darker than the wingback.. Then compliment the armchair with the throw and fabulous cushions.. A couple at one end for the sofa is how I arrange them.. :))
