Interior/design ideas for my lounge

Hi Guys

I have just had a new feature wall and sofa added to my lounge and i have stopped there. I am having a design pause as i just dont know what colours to bring in. I have done research so my thoughts are:

1. Copper/brass and blue

or

2. A nature theme with plants and wood

I live in an apartment and the lounge has beautiful french doors with gorgeous green scenery outside. My boyfriend is now living with me hence the new design so want to balance both masculine and feminine but something edgy funky as the taupe sofa and cream carpets have left the room feeling lifeless and soulless.

We both like nature and quite cool fashion yet something that will wow and yet be comfortable to live in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

A pale green and cream scheme would work well with your colours.

A large mirror on wall opposite the window to reflect the green. Some modern colourful art - maybe with a nature theme. Remove the cushions as they seem more suitable for a bedroom. If you really want cushions possibly a modern geometric design. You could add a rug but I would leave that decision until last. Just my own ideas but not so sure about the copper/brass/blue idea - others may help with that. Have fun with it.

Thank you for all your really helpful comments so far. My eyes are being opened to different thoughts and design ideas. I have loaded a few more photos from the day as it shows the light. The patio end is south facing bit we have a conservatory and some trees behind which reduces the light on the room. as you can see I do have lots of ornaments which I would want to keep and whilst I might have the odd piece to reflect the colour of the room I do t think this room is one to do from scratch and therefore a design idea needs to be around my bits. I have previously changed the botanical flower print as it was once another colour. As the room is long and thin it is quite hard to find an alternative layout which allows us to view the tv as well as entertain and see each other. Carolins I am loving all your ideas and today am going to visit a fabric design shop to see if I can get ideas there. I spend hours going through shop websites looking for cushions/ curtains / lamps as ideally I wouLd like ideas/links to products if possible. I am thinking of painting the wall a more neutral colour? Maybe something like Dimity from farrow and Ball, but from a cheaper supplier? please keep the ideas coming I am so grateful for all your help thank you so much! You've definitely got the space to add some form of seating to the dining room. How long is the table allowing for those doors opening inwards? Is it 6ft? I just assumed if you needed to seat 10 that would include dining or is it just socialising? How often do you socialise as I personally wouldn't fill the room with sofas if entertaining once a week. Do you have kids that need room to play? You could also look at a corner sofa that would seat more but (just imo) aren't always the best for socialising. Once you move in you could always mark out furniture placement with masking tape or better still use cardboard boxes (may have a few packing ones around!) as it will give you a better feel of walking round furniture. The living/dining wall looks as if its load bearing but you could potentially consider removing it and forming 2 seating areas. It depends how you socialise. I only find everyone sits together at Xmas with family whereas with friends small groups tend to form

I agree that greens would be lovely and restful in the room. However before choosing paint, I would find art and maybe mirrors for the walls, then it will be easier to choose a paint colour against which to display them. You have lots of wall space and it's a great opportunity to inject personality and soul into the room.

Spend time browsing everywhere from interiors stores to vintage shops for pieces that appeal to you. Art doesn't need to be expensive, even movie or music posters look great in the right frame. You could also have photos printed onto canvasses- if you have any great landscape or nature shots from holiday for example. Try to find pieces that will work together but don't necessarily 'match'. If you have a swatch of the wallpaper, you might bring that with you when shopping for art.

Something else that would change the feel of the room would be to replace the TV stand and the end table with chunky wooden ones. A bookcase or some floating shelves would also add to the warmth of the room, making it feel more lived in. And I would pull the couch away from the wall a little, this actually makes a room feel bigger. Enjoy!

Hi Katie

I think that wooden items like trunk chest table and green plants in ceramic pots would add lots of warmth. I would try to avoid glass and plastic and go for natural looking furniture.
