What goes with grey sofa. I keep thinking greys whites.
Comments (13)Hi The great thing about grey is that it is a neutral and can be pretty much mixed with anything:-) A few pieces and possibly prints in duck egg, black , a copper lamp or table, and you have your scheme. I have attached a few images below just to show you the diverse range of options and how anything goes. I don't know if your style is contemporary or more relaxed but the same theories apply - Interiors in my opinion look more interesting when things are not too matchy matchy. If you bought a copper/brass influenced, coffee table, lamp, side table, duck egg throw, a couple of cushions with duck egg and maybe white, black or muted green, a vase in teal, black etc. I know you get the idea. It can cost as little or as much as your budget allows and as you find pieces or things you love, they will all fit in beautifully but it will have a lovely relaxed feel. I hope this helps:-) https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/wimbledon-family-house-transitional-living-room-london-phvw-vp~8736498 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/false-creek-condo-scandinavian-living-room-vancouver-phvw-vp~11284069 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/san-francisco-pied-a-terre-contemporary-living-room-san-francisco-phvw-vp~34295322 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/heritage-home-renovated-by-tanner-kibble-denton-architects-tdka-contemporary-living-room-sydney-phvw-vp~12504826 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/living-etc-west-london-house-tour-2015-contemporary-living-room-london-phvw-vp~32703732 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/geometric-collection-contemporary-living-room-london-phvw-vp~36425901 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/shortlisted-sbid-international-design-awards-2013-residential-category-contemporary-living-room-london-phvw-vp~12418133 https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/clarendon-works-industrial-living-room-london-phvw-vp~19400707...See Morestruggling with my duck egg living room, help!
Comments (16)I hate to say this as you have just had curtains & pelmet put up, but if you were starting again I would let the curtains hang on either side of the window so they didn't cover the window at all, just the wall when pulled back, this will increase the amount of natural light you have coming in significantly, it would also mean you can lose the tie backs which can look a bit old fashioned. Also it looks like you have one standard lamp & presumably something in the ceiling, add loads of lamps, either freestanding or on tables, also a large mirror opposite the window will reflect light. Also if you look at the pictures above the rooms are quite busy with shelving, ornaments, side tables etc however as it is all in one colour palette it still looks calming. The style of sofa does make a big impact on making the whole scheme look more modern. Also worth thinking about wall paper which can be in the muted tones but can have a texture or low key pattern to it & if you were only going to do one wall, so only a roll or two, you could get an expensive paper with some wow factor to it....See MorePOLL: Eggs - free-range or caged?
Comments (31)Gerry, yes, you may well be right and I may be a little hard on the hobby chicken keepers. However, some of them don't seem to live in the real world of food production if their wild statements are anything to go by. The "welfare lobby" fulfils a very useful function by keeping pressure on the government to keep reviewing management standards. This is very apparent in the UK where, I believe, whilst we are not perfect, we do have a good balance between high production and welfare of the animal. Our farmers frequently complain that the standards they have to meet are higher than those observed on the continent. Apart from our own burgeoning population, India and China have about 2.5 billion people to feed - not easy and they don't want to be living on just rice and nut roasts.I have nothing at all against organic food whether it be bread or meat and it often tastes so much better. However, it is expensive and difficult to produce in quantity. For example, if someone is able to produce a grass which, like legumes, can fix nitrogen, then we will, if you pardon the phrase, "be on the pig's back" to some degree. Until then we must struggle on. Food security is important for every country. Post World War II it was the policy of our government to be self sufficient in food and we more or less achieved that by the end of the century. We could discard this policy and import a lot of meat from Brazil and Argentina, both of which countries can finish beef in the great outdoors (on grass). However, this would destroy our own beef industry and leave us very vulnerable. Like the title of a book by the late Enoch Powell - no easy answers!...See MorePavilion grey got going great!
Comments (13)I disagree with the greys being too much. My daughter has just had a kitchen and the worktops are the same colour as the cupboards, looks amazing and more seemless. I think if you colour match the worktop to the cupboards it will look a lot better. I also think that if you were to do some de-cluttering, change the toaster, kettle, etc for the Duck egg to match the little pots on the window sill, then that would help. Boxing in the pipes is an absolute must to make it look tidy. I can't think why they've got kinks in them. They need straightening by a plumber and boxing in to hide them. I don't think the scheme will go with the flooring and that it should be change for pale gloss grey to bounce the light around. The finish on the cupboards should also be glossy for the same reason. ( Flooring changed for light grey - makes a big difference )...See Morecupcakemker
