Tv/sofa position .....
Comments (16)Have a look on here for ideas, look at pictures and see what you like and take it from there. Anything will go with your light grey sofa so yep get that in then see what you think. I have dark grey sofa and slate grey walls, it's not depressing lol. What colour/ kind of floor are you going for? I would leave the chair until the sofa is in then decide, if you still want a chair maybe pick a chair that doesn't match your sofa just to mix things up a bit....See MoreIdeas for my sad looking living room.
Comments (32)Start by taking out everything you don't want/need Paint your walls white to start with as this will give the room a fresh new feel, you can always change this if you want but you can't go wrong with white. Dulux pure brilliant white is a good choice so you don't get confused with the cold/warm undertones. Change the largest sofa for something smaller, I don't mind the other one as it is a modern style but if it is worn and you feel you need to change then now is the best time. Wool fabric is a great hard wearing choice and is easy to clean. I have children and have had mid charcoal wool fabric sofas for 4 years and they are perfect! Don't forget that your sofa is an investment so put your money into this as décor can be changed a lot cheaper! Paint the fire surround colour to a charcoal to make it stand out and also link in with the sofas NOW.... is the fun part! I'd concentrate on the red curtains and find some art work or wallpaper or a rug or cushion that you REALLY love with red in and possibly some other bright colours. Be creative & bold! I would consider changing the green curtains but by this stage you'll have a better feel of the room and where it is heading and how you want the room to look from here. If you are worried about the cost of curtains, I'd look at IKEA as you can get some lovely cheap curtains from there. Once you've got to this stage, I'd post some before pics and after pics for us on Houzz and ask for further advice on decorating as you would have a blank slate and something that you LOVE that you can work with on the colours to bring in touches of texture and warmth and comfort from there. Good Luck!...See Morenew sofas - need help with colour scheme
Comments (29)keep the frieze white, I know that it might be tempting to paint it to go, but as it is likely an original feature, and was originaly white, plaster friezes should just stay white. not briliant white dulux, like an art gallery but a lovely natural white, like shirting from the little greene paint co. UNless you are painting them with golds etc in some palace I fell they always look much better white. and try not to get too much contrast in your paints, look for a pinky greys , lilac shadow from sanderson paints, mirage from the little green paint company , and fig greyt from zoffany are all examples of greys that hit a pinky tone, but GET SAMPLES they are invaluable for the seeing the nuances of shade and sublteties that only the light in your room will pick up. i can send you paint charts if ytou need them karly...See Moreliving room update - which sofa??
Comments (22)Hi all, thank you for your comments and pics. They were really helpful. We have decided on the French connection zinc in grey/charcoal (3 seater) combination with the grey leather cuddler. I’m just so excited I could burst. We need to wait 6-8 weeks so gives me a little time to consider paint and layout. Though I have already sold our sofa so we are taking in in terms to sit in the Ikea armchair and floor picnics. What kind of layout do you guys think would work? Thinking 3 seater on window wall and tv in same corner or where the chest is? or 3 seater on opposite wall and moving tv to corner under window and then cuddler either in centre facing fireplace or where chest is? The armchair and child chair will be at the other end in a reading corner. Positioning: The chest can go either to left or right of fire depending on tv location though it does not quite fit to right so I would have to go lengthways sling radiator or to right. The best of tables could go at opposite end of the three seater. Want to buy a new tv/media unit at some point. Not sure on style but think will need to be either white or a dark wood to mix well with the chest.. Colours.. I love the redoute Afaw rug to lighten the room and am thinking maybe two walls in a teal - farrow and ball Hague blue or another (open to recommendations) on fireplace wall and wall to left (where chest currently is?) to separate living from play. Not sure whether to repaint other walls in a brilliant white, leave in the soft white currently or paint in a pale grey. Can anyone help with suggestions? Also thinking a few pops of yellow with cushions and keeping the gold round mirror though it may Need positioning a little higher? Thoughts? Back to houzz it is for inspiration....See Morejacksplash
