Sliderobes / mustard bed

We are currently decorating our bedroom- the sliderobes were here when we bought the house and although the storage is amazing I am not keen on the finish / colour. I fell in love with the mustard velvet bed and HAD to have it but now I've become a bit unstuck in what do do next. The walls are white which I find a little stark ( it's a Victorian house with two windows in the bedroom) and the carpet is grey. My questions are should I

- try and paint the sliderobes with chalk paint and if so should I leave the horizontal metal effect rails or paint them too...
-what colour should the rest of the room be to complement the bed - maybe a navy/ grey /mustard scheme?
-or go a bit more opulent with a wallpaper in keeping with the Victorian age of the house? And if so wallpaper the panels of the sliderobes too?

I love the bed and really can't afford to ditch the sliderobes at the moment so any advice would be greatfully received!

Mustard and grey are a great combination. A navy / denim blue accent would also go well.... if you didn't have the striking wardrobes I would have suggested painting the wall behind your bed navy - that will really make your gorgeous mustard bed pop.

The wardrobes look shiny so i'd worry about how easy it would be to get a high quality finish if you painted them. Maybe wait until you can afford to replace them. I've attached some ideabook pics that should work with what you've got now. Hopefully someone on here will have done something similar before so can give you some proper advice!

Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!

AK yes I did spend hours just me and my little mouse sander but so worth it. The paint is oil and is called Dulux deep Delhi Bazaar 3 which I got mixed in-store. Lots of hours a primer coat and three patiently applied coats of mustard later and I am glad I put the effort in.

You mentioned Sims-Hilditch and bringing in the blue so not sure what you think of these accessories? She always seems to use valances on beds and layers throws. Depending on the amount of blue you want you could pick either lampshade? I'd have 2 of the cream cushions and either one of the ikat. I'd put an oval mirror behind the bedside table with the lamp and an eucalyptus bouquet. could you repurpose the table elsewhere as it visually blocks the door? Maybe add some things on the lower peg rail for texture/interest (maybe a hammam guest towel and a jute bag for toiletries?) fingers crossed the photos upload this time!
