living room dilemma

hi. i just moved in in an apartment. my living room and kitchen are small so I had to put mu fridge in the living room. the living room is still empty, I'm loving the wall color but i don't know how to decorate the room or what to put or what not to put, where...should I buy leather sofas or just simple couches cause I need plenty of sitting space..please help!

I think a mirror would work really well in the living room as it will add light yet also make the room look bigger.

As for the sofa, I think its down to personal preference as different people prefer different things.

Leather is good as a wipe-clean option if you have kids for example but generally I'm not so keen. Leather will naturally wear/crease wherever someone sits the most so they won't stay looking good for as long as other fabric sofa's. They can also get very hot and sweaty to sit in when its warm.

I would also suggest getting a nice large rug to soften off all the hard tile underfoot!

be careful about painting the walls too light when you have such dark furniture- most people think it will make the room lighter but in fact will just make the sofa look darker and I suspect you won't like the contrast. I would choose Charleston grey for the walls, Strong white for the paintwork and coving then Clunch for the ceiling and above the picture rail. Don't forget you will need an accent colour- teal, plum, yellow, Navy, in fact loads of colours work. You will also need some pattern. Bring the pattern and colour in through pictures, lamp shades, Rugs, cushions, throws etc.

This is what it looks like now, we’ve not touched this room since we moved in ;( we had some brill ideas on the initial post, unfortunately I’m still stuck on the layout, Ive got to keep the same sofa and flooring (and patio doors) for costs but everything else can go but can’t seem to do anything with the layout, I hate this room :((

Thanks so much for all your tips. I’ve realised that I definitely don’t like a white stripe above the picture rail as I don’t think it works. But I like the photo called Clapham received there seems to be a stripe of white left under the cornice which looks interesting. Agree paint is the cheapest thing to replace - Although painting takes forever. I’m doing it myself as I got quoted £700 for painting a room! will start with fireplace chimney and opposite wall First and then see. I’d like to keep the fireplace wood unpainted as I really love how it looks right now

Shame about the Fridge Freezer, as it's positioned in front of all the light coming in. Can you not do with a smaller one? Or maybe a side by side one? You could then spray paint the front to fit in with the lounge area to disguise it further, and thus incorporating it into the area.
