hallway colour on wall please.
Comments (5)ED thanks .Here is a picture of the outside still hasnt been decorated outside .plus the hallway floor i only have this picture leading into our yet to be kitchen .If you have any suggestionsfor my kitchen please advise .Its all a blank canvas at the moment .1st pic is kitchen diner 2nd the main kitchen area 3rd view from kitchen to diner 4th on the left is a doorway leading to the diner with aan open area where i wanted to do some kind of moraccan style design.Any advise please.thanks...See MorePaint colour suggestions for hallway, stairs and landing
Comments (28)Hiya, we have a Victorian hallway and it is done very similar to Rukmini’s first image. We have a greeny grey under the dado (including the skirting and dado itself) and on the doors and architraves. It’s Blanket by Paint & Paper library which is a little darker than Rukmini’s pic. Then an off white above the dado and on the ceiling. It used to be off white all over and the grey definitely has made it darker. On the other hand it also feels smarter and shows the marks less! Swings and roundabouts. I wouldn’t have three colours, I would pick one colour plus off white above the dado/picture rail (Pointing seems sensible!!) Your tiles look browny grey so would suggest looking at Ammonite by F&B and its family of colours - (Cornforth White, Purbeck Stone). See below for the F&B families of greys. If you want bluey or greeny greys then Paint & Paper Library are a good source but be careful to see if they will go with your tiles....See MoreCan you, should you partially tile the *WALL* of your hall?
Comments (15)I would just paint up to dado height. The 2nd photo has dado rails which you don’t need but just showing you the radiator painted and taking it up the stairs. I’d also paint the skirting boards and you want to paint around 1/3 of the wall height. I’ve used Little Greene intelligent eggshell which would be fine for dirty paws (oil can be a little stubborn) but think I will be trying Sarah’s Mylands recommendation next given how Matt it is....See MoreHelp! 7 years agoSorry should have added it's mid Renovation so there's stairs moving etc so don't have accurate picture yet. Here's the floor plan if it's helps. Tiles are my husbands (only!) suggestion for the renovation so want to make sure they work in quite a contemporary house. I love them too just slight hesitation they will dominate the whole ground floor

Well it also depends on what else colour wise you're choosing for your scheme.. Whether you want bold and dramatic or whether you want something lighter in feel... Using them sparingly with a lot of plain in between or perhaps as boarders can then lend themselves to accent rather than statement... All depends on what you want from them as they're versatile!
For pale schemes.. Think of colours such as creams, wheat and pale sun hued creams with hints of yellow.. Light and earthy tones on the cream, wheat, canvas, hessian colours perhaps beige and pale mustards, or pale golden creams and burnt siena with hints of brown,ochres ..
For bold consider dark almost purple blues and hints of mauve.. Also Charcoal and greys with black and brown hues... For a warm but dramatic look.. The colours are chalky and have depth... Include wood work and again wall covering is versatile in that it could be half height or whole height.. Put tiles and colours together to see what you like.. Paint onto squares of paper no less than A4 and place them where you might want to use them.. Look throughout the day to see how they react and interact with their space and the changing light..
From one colour you can begin to mix it to blend and become another.. In this way you can see colours interact with each other. Use versions of them by working with lighter and or darker varieties of the chosen colour.. Here's a doodle to show the colours blue and others I'm suggesting so you can see the blue is still quite dominant. I rather like blue and elements of yellows, old golds and creams.. Look at the tiles themselves too for inspiration... : ))
