Comments (33)Hello Minnie, I know you will get to the bottom of it! and if I win masses on the lotto, I'll buy you a new oven! Macarons are my favourite! and let's not talk about cheesecake!! I cannot even look at those delectable treats without becoming a balloon. (bad eating at ballet school and beyond! (left my metabolism sluggish so now I have to work really hard at eating only protein to resemble my 20/30's.. last year and Jan was good and it's been slowly getting worse ever since. : )). .. bet you're really popular with the girlfriends bringing those treats out from the kitchen.. I say if it tastes good then that's all that matters really.. I'm less El Bulli, Heston and Bompass & Parr about food than I am about design! : ))...See MoreHelp!!! More tiling issues!!!!! Comments (32)Tiles are one way to introduce some pops of colour in your kitchen. If you are worried about the grout discolouring, use epoxy grout which is more resilient to liquid staining. Also, if you use a coloured grout, discolouration will be less noticeable. If you choose textured tiles with rectilinear edges, grout lines are almost invisible. Using tiles can look more traditional compared to glass or stainless steel. The problem with stainless steel is keeping it looking good. Drip marks and grease are instantly noticeable. Glass is less obvious when splashed. They are both more industrial and modern looking. What about using the same material that makes up your worktop as the splashback? Most manufacturers of manmade worktops also do an 11mm thick splashback and upstand....See MoreWhere to put ovens, hob and sink?
Comments (10)Hi Jennie, From reading, It seems like you have a good idea with what to do with the space. You're right with the right side being a little restrictive with what you can do... so in that case, we would suggest a run of units similar to the picture attached, less the appliances for safety, unless it were coffee machine, or something similar. This could be mirrored in some way on the opposite side (space/height permitting), allowing you to have the built in wall ovens.I also agree that the hob/ovens should be over on the left side, this should definitely be the quieter side of the kitchen with regards to traffic. I wouldn't suggesting running the units down the entire wall though, it can be expensive (what ever your budget), plus it doesn't really allow the kitchen to have an end. With the regards to the island, would you want a breakfast bar with such a space? Also, if you are looking at granite/quartz worktop, you'll need to bear in mind that they are only available to a certain size (3150 x 1400), some are slightly bigger. I would include the sink on the island, probably with the hob to make it near the ovens... depending on the style you are looking at and what the island needs to do for you, we could have a few ideas that you could work with. Comments (15)After a kitchen renovation very often you get new appliances and a good designer will help you choose these my asking you questions regarding your lifestyle, the size of your family, the type of cooking you prefer and also the number of times you may need to increase your cooking for entertaining and family gathering. These answers will enable a good designer to suggest cooking facilities taht you may not have considered, i.e Combination microwave ovens, added steam ovens and full steam ovens, not to forget fan assisted ovens, which may be new to you. That only covers ovens they may also suggest replacing gas with induction and explaining the economy of these hobs and the ease of use. So can a new kitchen change your cooking methods, most definatly yes, we tend to experiment and see what our new toys can do....See MoreEmma Beckwith
