In need of ideas /advice on feature wall in bedroom

Hi ,
we've finally bought our first house and we choose gold as a feature wall but as the bed,chest of drawers etc has gone in the room, it doesn't stand out and make the room look tired and quiet plain..?

I have antique white walls with a light cream carpet/ curtains

Does anyone have any ideas, colours I should use- it would be much appreciated

I think the white bedding is too stark against the taupe gold. Add some extra layers, colour and texture to your bedding to bring warmth and add some art work and maybe an ornate gold mirror to your feature wall. Example attached!

I think it would work if the gold wallpaper was more goldy - more vibrant. Might look horrid in the shop but work in real life

I'd have a quirky feature wall with the other walls a light blue! Then you could use different vintage pieces around the room. Alternatively, I would have a duck egg/light blue feature wall with a nice pattern and the other walls a light cream/white. Either way I would put your bed against the feature wall with some basic curtains.

Personally I would not pair grey with magnolia, consider looking at a different colour to contrast with...to emphasise and bring out the undertones in the grey. Or you could paint the room a mid grey, and use a feature wallpaper behind the bed to add impact. Also be warned that you need to know what undertone is in the grey to know what it will pair well with! Good luck look forward to seeing the results! What about hanging a fabric behind the bed to frame it? Either a nice canvas of art stretched behind or a fabric you like as a curtain behind.

I don't think it looks like gold more like a beige colour ...... if you keep I would add a bolder headboard & dress the bed more with cushions & a throw.

As the gold is not that prominent, I think you should add accessories that bring out the gold in the room like a mirror with a gold border, may be a brass or gold vase with flowers. Definitely dress up your bed with some colored cushions and throws. Share pics when you have done the makeover! Best of luck!

Hi,

As most people have already pointed out, a good design isn't just about one element like the wallpaper. It is about creating layers and balancing the elements correctly.

I too think your gold could work perfectly well with the other walls, carpet and furniture, but you now need to layer accessories/soft furnishings and create a great balance that brings the scheme to life.

One of the major problems with the space is the large 'gap' you have about the headboard. It may feel like it's the papers fault but you are just processing the gap as being uncomfortable.. Fill it with a mirror, art work or (I like the idea of) the fabric panel.. And this will make the room feel instantly more comfortable and inviting.. Add a few layers of cushions and you will have a great space.

The wallpaper is reading pink-beige, as do the lampshade on the right and the curtains on the left (ignoring the pink baby bedding). The walls are too clean against the wallpaper and are making the wallpaper dirty. Something like BM OC-12 Muslin would work well

You can add frames like these to the featured wall and add a personalized touch to the frames .

thanks you for all your ideas, I think I'm going to go for a mirror as a feature, once the cot has gone I'll get bedside tables in.
I'm thinking of a gold/white and navy blue theme in colours...?

I think the wallpaper is fine but it could be the furniture and lack of artwork
Either a bed with a nice fabric headboard, two chic bed side tables with nice modern bedside lamps. Would help a lot
