square edge laminate

we're in the process of doing up our kitchen. We're on a tight budget so I've come to the conclusion that laminate is probably the most cost effective solution, but I'd really like some advice on brands. I'm thinking wood effect, ideally square edge (or close to), durable, using sustainable wood core. Advice much appreciated!

Leading brand tends to be duropal. Good quality laminate on a decent density board. We recommend these over anything else.

thanks for the advice. I think what is putting me off is that I can't find many pictures of duropal in a finished kitchen. Does anyone have any pictures they could share? Thanks!

I thought I'd update everyone as to what we settled on as most of you won't have seen the finished post. Went went for Little Greene French Pale Grey on the walls and then a Grey Quartz worktop which had worked quite well. To stop it from being clinical, we opted for some textured wallpaper in the dining area which is Bala Storm (I think) from John Lewis. We then added some natural tones using a wooden table, and then Vitra chairs. Along with wooden fruit bowl etc. The main window will have wooden venetian blinds, and the bay windows will probably be done in a darker grey material as the perfect fit style blinds you find in conservatories

Hi SD, Just a suggestion but have you considered bathroom worktops? I did a kitchen once with 28mm thick worktops and prima do a white version you can see here: http://www.bushboard.co.uk/products/range/nuance/calacatta-marble--true-scale-236 I've attached a picture of the kitchen I created with the similar thickness top. Decent laminate worktop suppliers that I'd recommend are Axiom, Egger, Prima, Odyssey and Omega. Between the 5 of them they sometimes have similar designs so look at each one to see what lengths they offer as some are 3 metres, some 3.6 and some 4 metres. You need to work out which is cost effective to avoid waste. Google the images. There are some great choices and most of them will post you a sample free of charge.

Hi Ben, I like the 2nd last design, the one without the cupboard opposite the boiler. Having a wall unit there breaks the sight line and makes it feel cluttered. I would use the shelves for glasses and cups. I have wood worktops from worktop express. Great quality, just a little wear 3 years on. We opted for an oil finish and need to do the 1st re-oil soon. We have a dishwasher so minimal dishes done but the sink is siliconed under it's rim. Water doesn't seem to be an issue yet.
